Default Client for Microsoft Networks

Client for Microsoft Networks shows up under "Properties" for the
"Local Area Connection." In that dialogue box I routinely disable
File & Printer sharing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP under WINS,
since this machine is not networked and connects to the Internet
through a router. I also disable the related Windows services.

I really do not know anything about Client for Microsoft Networks,
but Googling it seems to bring up info that would indicate
it is probably not needed in this set-up, and turning it off would
not only conserve resources, but actually might enhance security.

Any reason not to kill it?

I always disabled it in my 2k setup along with Netbios and file and printer sharing, never had any problems or issues.. however, I don't know if there may be any other reasons for keeping it, so proceed with caution I suppose...

Probably not in your set up - vital in mine, it is used when connecting MS OSes together.
