Restoring ALL files on OS's drive

I guess my memory has failed me.

I thought that I recalled a discussion that indicated that, given an image backup of a drive, one could use a files recovery to recover ALL the files in the image.

Alas, this does not work in TI 9 as the system state files are not restored.

 

Is this an "Image" backup or a "Files & Folders" backup?

If you have an image backup then you have all the files in the partition(s) that were backed up. You can mount or explore the image to retrieve files.

If it was a Files & Folders backup, then you may or may not have system files backed up even if you selected the entire partition (drive C:, for example). A restore of this type will usually not result in a "working" system.

 

Yes, AFAIK, the person doing the backup did an image backup.

I guess I could tell her to send me the script files to see what she is doing.

I guess that we cannot restore the system state uses a files recovery from an image of the OS's drive.

 

I don't think you can "restore" system files while the system is operating, even from a apartition/disk image. It's a feature/fact of the OS.

 

You can if restoring from the recovery CD, not from within Windows.
