    Ok I am royally confused!

    40 GB drive.
    Wiped clean and unformatted.

    Installed a copy of windows xp to a new partion of 13 GB.
    Boot ini claims : default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT.

    Added a copy of windows 2k Pro.
    Boot.ini claims : default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT.

    Added a copy of Win 98.
    boot.ini claims : default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT.

    o_Oo_O

    Infact after countell hours of playing around (Could not find a quick way other than trila and error) I have confirmed that on installaing w2kp the xp was moved {?} to partiton 2! And when the third OS was installed it was placed as #1 so it bumped W2KP to 2 and XP to 3 >>>>> WTF?

    Just to complicate this further...OSS wont see XP after installing w2kp !

    I have solved it and would like to UNDERSTAND why?
    I deactiveted the OSS. Rebooted. Uninstalled the OSS.

    I had to manually edit the three boot.ini files to reflect thier PROPER location and ONLY that location.

    So what I now have is this:
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\ WIN 98
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\ WIN 2KP
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\ WIN XP

    Booted thru the Rescue disc to DD one at a time hiding 2 of the 3 partiotions to confirm the changes were correctly pointed tot the correct OS's.

    THEN I booted to the rescue disc and Reinstalled the OSS.
    Now it all works right.

    Seems to me there should have been a better way.

    What will happen if I add a fourth OS...need i rewrite all the ini's again?

    A read through this thread may help you understand what's happening. I agree that there should be an easier way.

    Maybe, maybe not. But you would have to check them all and verify they were still correct for the partitions they're on.
