registry defrag

hi all

any one know of any registry de-fragmentation programs that will work for older systems i know about page defrag but that only works for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Server 2003

I'm looking for something similar that will work got 9x/me

All registry registry defragmenters mostly do the same, unlike HDD defragmenters, they just remove free space, so I think, that it does not really matter, which one you are going to use, using good registry cleaner, which will free more space, but cause no problems, is more questionable. You can simply try them like: use one, then try to use the other, when it find nothing, then it does the same. By the way, another one, working in Vista as well, is Auslogics Registry Defrag.

 

Unfortuneatly, Auslogics Registry Defrag is for Windows 2K/XP/2003/Vista only. He was looking for 9x/Me...

Try NTREGOPT. Probably the best around. You can also download ERUNT together with NTREGOPT. ERUNT is the best if you want to restore the
registry. You can use it from the recovery console as well. For details

NTREGOPT is not a Registry defrag, it removes empty space/slack in the registry & returns the bytes back to general use.

just used registrydefrag from tuneup utilities, after analysing the registry it came up with message "registry is already optimised,no need for defrag".there seem some defragging done before,and sure it was NTREGOPT that i used a few hours before Tuneup Utilities, so NTREGOPT among other things does defragging as Ocky said.

Note that the program does NOT change the contents of the registry in
any way, nor does it physically defrag the registry files on the drive
(as the PageDefrag program from SysInternals does). The optimization

i already read that on his homepage thats why i was a little amased at the outcome,possible some bug in tuneup or NTREGOPT do more then expected,for now i will test these two on more rigs.

One can restart in DOS mode and run scanreg. Never needed anything else for the w9x machines.
scanreg /optimize /fix

Great that make for clears things up,my thought on these are less fragmented !!
As for Pagedefrag i have little use for these app. cause i have PD which can do the same thing.
