Question Startup in XP Pro

Hi everyone. I had to do a complete format due to blunders here and there. I notice that on the startup, it will give me 3 choices. Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Pro and XP Recovery. Why it says XP Pro twice is beyond me. Anyway, I can wait 30 seconds or press enter to continue. How can I completely bypass that screen and have windows start up right away.

Thank you kindly for your reponse.

There is an extra entry in your boot.ini file, it sounds like.

For safety sake, make a copy of your boot.ini before doing anything.

Make sure you can see system hidden files.

Open c:\boot.ini

You should see something that looks like this:
Quote:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Yours will probably have a duplicate line in there.

Delete out the extra line and any blank lines and save it.

That should remove the double-option from appearing.

Go to Start > Run and type
msconfig
and hit Enter. Click on the BOOT.INI tab and click the button "Check all boot paths". That will identify which is the incorrect entry and allow you to remove it.

Wink Re: Startup in XP Pro

Thanks to you both. I did it. Now I have to reboot. Thanks again. Also, can you tell me how to stop the system from counting 30 seconds before booting and bypass that screen and boot immediately. It use to do that with XP Home but with Pro it's different. I'd like to bypass that screen. Thanks again

Big Grin Re: Startup in XP Pro

oooooooooooooops I just rebooted and because there was only one setting, it didn't go to the 30 second screen. It automatically rebooted. Disregard the above post. Thanks guys.
