Default Still lnsfw Driver installation issue with 2.06

Still encountering the same problem. lns drivers fails to load after installation (restart).

Anyway, enjoy it you guys. Personally loved it (previous versions) when I trialled it on my desktop.

There's no fundamental changes between the 2.05p3 and the 2.06b2, so if it worked before, v2.06 should still work now with the same hardware. Please visit http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showp...9&postcount=16 and participate if you have the time.

Nope the lns driver never loaded on my laptop after installation. It loaded fine on my desktop, as stated.

The thread you linked to seems to be a different issue, as in my case after installation I get a small window stating something along the lines of, lns driver failed to load.

Could you give us the exact error message ?
Also could confirm you are trying a fresh 2.06 install, and there is no other firewall installed (or badly uninstalled).

So, if finally your first post was about nVidia graphic drivers (and not nVidia network drivers), not there is no known compatibility issue.

Thanks,

Frederic

Yep, just downloaded today after noticing your post (#1).

I don't think so. My laptop initially came with pre-installed Norton IS 2007 which I uninstalled through add/Remove and then ran the Norton Removal tool. Since then I've been running XP SP2 firewall.

"Unable to load the lnsfw driver (error 0)" means the lnsfw driver was not installed properly, perhaps unsigned drivers are automatically forbidden on your system, check Windows Update Driver settings...

I just installed it again (after uninstallation and reboot) but this time with driver signing set to 'ignore'. And No difference; same result.

I think you probably need to follow the instructions that's available here http://www.looknstop.com/En/faq_prob...#driver_remove, once having uninstalled Look 'n' Stop using it's uninstaller..

lnsfw1 driver was showing under device manager > Non Plug and Play drivers. So I manually uninstalled it.

I think I'll call it a day with Look'n'Stop. Probably give PCTools version a spin. Thanks for the help.

There's definitely something wrong. Could it be DEP? or conflict with something else?

Alright, when you try again, ensure you running under user account with administrator privileges... It should install fine then...

Geswall or something else for security software you running is blocking the Look 'n' Stop driver 'lnsfw.sys' install...

The strage thing also is there is no error during the installation.
Normally when this driver can't install properly there is an error message (like the famous 0x800F0203).

Also what you check is the network properties of your network connection/adapter, to see if the Look 'n' Stop driver appears there or not.
In the device manager, in the network group Look 'n' Stop driver should also be there (you need to display hidden device in the options to have it).

Frederic

Firstly I get no errors during initial installation (pre-boot)

The drivers appear under Device Manager & Network Connection Properties

lnsfw1.sys isn't the same as lnsfw.sys, lnsfw.sys is the problematic driver shown in your error capture, this is for packet filtering, lnsfw1.sys is for Application filtering... Look under Network Adapters with Show hidden devices selected

+ I don't think it's my security software i.e. Geswall, aol AVS, or Comodo Boclean because I've tried installing the previous previous beta version (1) without those installed. Hence the reason, at first, of suspecting nVidia (Graphics) driver or maybe even ACer (Notebook manufacturer) drivers etc

Yea, no Look 'n' Stop emulation going on there...

Have you tried installing Look 'n' Stop in Safe mode?

What's interesting is your 'Local Area Connection Properties', that indicates to me the packet driver was installed...

Yes, this is unusual.
Some other checks to be done:
- lnsfw.sys is in c:\windows\system32\drivers
- in the registry the SFilter entry in service is there and mentioning also this file.

agghhhhhh!!! I just uninstalled and just seen you post.

I can install it and report back sometime tommorrow, if your interested?

Personally I don't think this release it's going to make it on my laptop (just too much hassle), maybe some time in the future. Shame.

Thanks for the help.

To be honest, I don't think this is a Look 'n' Stop fault, everything about this problem seems to point to some sort of security system interference... I think your experiences before and previous to the security systems installs was something unrelated and known...

I have a feeling the PCTools will behave alike...
