I did it! Thanks so much to all you guys (gals too?), especially MudCrab. It is wonderful that you guys not only know what you are doing, but that you also take the time to try and understand the cause of new guys problems.
I have a step by step proceedure that results in dual booting win98\win311 fat16 on an old desktop. I will post the proceedure below once I type it up, not right away-- I have my computer back and will be busy installing aps (finally whew). I known win98\win311 is not of much interest, but I think I can figure out Vista\win98 on a new notebook now, which should apply to vista\XP and I read here there are still many problems with that. I'm pretty sure most these dual boot proceedures must start with 1)format C: 2)Install clean OS 3)Install DD. Unfortunately you will have to reinstall all your aps. The "proceedure" (not sure what to call it) in User's Guide 8.2.2 'Installing Windows on a seperate partition" will probably fail in most cases. In particular do not reboot from OSS just prior to installing the new OS. |

I wrote the above before reading your latest post to "Win98 trashed again", real quick, I'm going to read it next.... |

I'm glad you got it to work.
As you have found out (and are still finding out), there are many different ways of doing this. Some work on some computers and some don't. Once you have a system that works on your computer, it's a lot easier to proceed. You'll probably revise the procedures as you become more familiar with the programs and their capibilities. I look forward to reading the steps you took for the successful outcome. |
