When I backup Windows XP I get small files, e g, if used space is 15 GB
and the harddisk is 50GB, the backup is typically only 4-5 GB. But when I backup Vista, even if used space is only 9-10GB, the backup is about 30GB. Why does it backup empty space? I am using Acronis 10.0 |

In a dual boot scenario, to backup the Vista partition from XP does not work. TI backs up the partition all right, but includes everything empy space or not. But when you do the backup from inside Vista it works flawlessy, as usual!

What size is the Vista partition you're backing up?
What build of TI 10 are you using? What boot manager are you using? I use OSS. Perhaps (if the Vista partition is marked hidden when you're in XP) TI isn't recognizing the changed partition type and is therefore creating an image of the entire partition. In my multi-boot setup, I have created backup images of my Vista partition from my XP partition and it worked properly. |

It is a fresh install of Vista Ultimate of 9.8 GB the partition is 52GB
The backup was now only 4.2GB! It is TI version 10.0 build 4942 I am using Vista's boot manager. "I have created backup images of my Vista partition from my XP partition and it worked properly" For some reason it got into my head that is was better to backup from another OS, but no, TI has no problem backing up the OS it is running on and the is probably the best choise. |
