Default What would your two choices be for paid and free RealTime protection?

Remember you only can only choose two. Here's mine, what about yours? I excluded Third Party Firewalls, as I only use Windows XP Firewall behind a Router Firewall.

Paid

Avira Personal Premium and Prevx1.
AVG Pro and a squared Anti-Malware.

Free

Active Virus Shield and Cyberhawk.
Avast and Spyware Terminator

Hmm thats tough. Free/free would be Comodo BOClean and Spyware Terminator and pay/free it would be Boclean and Superantispyware Pro.

Duke,
Start with free because it won't hurt your wallet.
Two possibilities for each software :
1. If it works, you are lucky.
2. If it doesn't work, than trial paid.

I assume you meant 2 choices EACH for paid & free. Ergo...

=Paid: System Safety Monitor & DrWeb*

=Free: Dynamic Security Agent & A-squared

*Under serious consideration (in case DrWeb ver. 4.44 or later isn't SMOOTHLY out of beta by July 2007)- F-Prot

For what I could pay for is propably Sandboxie.
I have times when I have instant messengers running in it beside my browser.
So I need to clear the sandbox contents of my browser as I feel maybe bad cookies in it or something but no need to stop my Skype etc., so I need separate sandboxes.
If Ronen makes his program only payware, I might do that.
But I hope he does not do that.

Hello,

I'll play along, even though I do not think one needs real-time protection. And I'm assuming we're talking about anti-malware and such... and not browsers, recovery, imaging etc...

Free real-time:

SSM Free or just about any free anti-virus with real-time protection

Paid real-time:

OA or DefenseWall

That said, I think these programs are not needed when one employs wise and alternative computing.

Mrk

I didn't know what "real time" means, and had to look it up:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_protection
Quote:
Real-time protection, background guard, resident shield, autoprotect, and other synonyms refer to the automatic protection provided by most antivirus, anti-spyware, and other antimalware programs, which is arguably their most important feature.
Is there some protection that is not "real time"?

Anyway, I have to concur with Mrk's concluding statement.

-rich

Hi I am torn between behavior blocking and anti-executables, so for

Behavior Blocking
PAID: PrimaryResponseSafeConnect + GeSWall Pro (seamless sandbox + confidential files protected against theft)

FREE: EQSecure + PowerShadow (only OS-partition virtualised = single mode)

Anti-Executable
PAID: On-line Armour (AE+FW) + DefenseWall (seamless sandbox)

FREE: NeoavaGuard + PowerShadow (only OS-partition virtualised = single mode)

I would not be using anti-spy or anti-virus software (except KIS with PDM, but that is a suite and could be considered cheating). The concept of blacklisting is so outdated (in real life, WHO advises to use condoms in stead of trusting HIV-slowing down medicine).

Paid: HIPS & Sandbox (any brand should do just fine).
Free: I do not know any full-featured HIPS or sandbox.

AV, AS, AT and so on are great for ondemand scan only.
If you would not exclude this: firewall + behavior blocking.

If you don't download things just like that, and you adjust to it, SandboxIE, with either Avast! or Antivir, or AVG.
If you want to be reassured that you did not download anything bad, and everything is ok, Prevx1 and one of above AVs.

AOL, i really don't get it.

well apps like spywareblaster and ie-spyad, or apps that do system hardening dont have a background process so theyre not considered realtime.

Free=Kerio PFW 2.15 and DSA
