make your own livecd

i was going to make a livecd once before, but i didn't have enough HDD space, or CPU power at the time, i do now though. i'm going to bed now and i haven't read though it very carefully. is it about making a personally tailored livecd?

I've been making live CD's for PCLinuxOS and Ubuntu (Mint), its the fastest and best way to backup your OS.

You can also take your live CD every where you go, use it on any PC, and its like you never left home

Just another reason (one of many) people should give Linux a try.

you keep all the changes you make on usb sticks. i've got an article from an old linux magazine about making livecds too. i'm not doing it now though because i have to decide which distro i want to use. although i think i might try fluxubuntu, i really like fluxbox and ubuntu. i suppose i could try mint with fluxbox too.

This website has a bunch of scripts and instructions non-distro specific towards making live cds.

For those archers , there is something called larch

For those on netbsd, there is a nice tutorial here for making a custom one.

There are also some for openbsd and freebsd, I just don't feel like looking for them right now.

thanks, arch might be good to use. i still worry about distros that let you select all the packages to install without giving somekind of base 'security package set' incase i forget something important, i'm not really sure what might be important though lol, maybe the PAM stuff. i just had a feeling i'd forgotten a big chunk of the OS when i had arch.

Or, maybe you had none of the unecessary stuff

The amazing thing, is that it includes all the bare-essentials, but essentials that you really need, like gcc. No GUI, no auto junk, just what is needed for full hardware detection and usability at the command line level. Then, you just have to add stuff as you need it, resulting in a nice and customized system.

If you think that is a bare install though, look at a NetBSD or OpenBSD install some time

Because "su mklivecd ISO" is much faster. and, PClinuxOS already did all the hard work for me

no, i'm not running it. but, i have got the latest livecd, i'm setting up ubuntu atm, so i'll probably try it out in a few days.
