By far and away the quickest desktop search tool i ever seen. Used this way back on 98/Me days.

 

I don't use search tools nowadays.

I also don´t use any of these tools in theory they sound great but IMO they all suck. That´s one of the reason why I want to switch to Vista, because of the "instant find" feature.

I do not need any, I know, where all my files are located.
As for an unknown, I can find them using google websearch.

It's very rare for me to search for something. I organize my files in Folders. The "Arquive" holds almost everything. Arquive- Software- Installers is where my programs are for instance.
But for the rare occasions, the Windows built in doesn't look very good. I'll try your suggestions. Thanks

 

I think some of the replies are missing something. No one ever said you don't know where your files are or you don't need to hunt for them.

What makes a fast desktop search program important is not always looking FOR files but looking for what "string" "name" "line" is INSIDE files for example, i want to bring up all the txt and htm files i have on my PC that deal specifically with "Rootkits". Now over many months of researching data, reports accummalate more than you have time to sort thru them all. So type "rootkits" and set a "filter" for .HTM,.HTML,.txt files only and press SEARCH: and Wallah!!!

Just a thought.

OK thanks, I´ve checked out Locate32 and it´s cool I have to say. But too bad that you can´t clear search history! Also, the slow icon loading is a bit annoying, but that´s probably related to my system.

 

Is there any benefit in using these kind of applications that missed me? Why would I want to search my desktop (PC)? I definitely know where I put the stuff on my machine and what's in that stuff...


EDIT: BTW, my brother uses Google's and I don't really get his way of organizing data. I prefer to use my brains.

Well, for the rare occasions i do a search (i know where things are), i tried locate32 reading this thread, and i must say, nanoseconds to find anything, and very customizable search too.

 

Have absolutely no need for another process running on my machine to tell me where a file is. I know where they are and a double-click of a folder or shortcut is all I need to get to it.

If its lost on my hard drive, I press Windows Key + F and type in the name. Doesn't take but a few seconds to find it.

Also, try setting up a few environmental variables for your most frequently used folders. Then all you have to do is hit Windows Key + R and type your variable and boom, you are there. I can do it in about 1 second if I'm going slow.

No need for software to do that
