Lightbulb The 2.06 Beta 1 version is available.

Hi All,

We are pleased to announce the release of the 2.06b1 version.

Here are the links to download it:
English: http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/...etup_206b1.exe
French: http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/...Stop_206b1.exe

This is a beta version. So, if your PC is important for your business (or anything else), you should wait before installing it.

No need to uninstall your current release, just run the setup on top of your current installation and the update will be automatic. You will be prompted for a reboot at the end.

Special thanks to Phant0m, who helped us a lot to test this first 2.06 beta release.

Here is the content of this new version (this is an extract from the history in the help file):

Added:
  • Support for Windows Vista (except DLLs filtering for now)
  • Internet Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): IP V6 support
  • Application Filtering (Windows Vista only): IP V6 support
  • Internet Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): a new option to handle fragmented packets.
  • Application Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): a new option to have the application filtering still active even if Look 'n' Stop is stopped (persistent application filtering)
  • Application Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): possibility to add non standard extensions for parent applications.
  • New option to associate import files (.rie) to Look 'n' Stop. This allows to import files by clicking a link or double clicking on a .rie file.
  • Popup position is saved.
  • Some counters have been added in the TCP connections dialog box.
  • Direct access to a rule from the log (with a right click).
  • Service mode startup is now available in the options.
  • Rule edition: added "Equal/different from my @" for the MAC address.
Changes:
  • Automatic selection of the network interface is anyway done on an excluded IP if no other network interface with a valid IP has been found..
  • Rule and log files are no longer saved in the Look 'n' Stop installation folder but in the following folder: "\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\looknstop" (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only; and for a fresh install only)
  • New registrations will no longer be done through the "Look 'n' Stop Code" but with an email address.
  • "Watch thread injection" and "Watch DNS calls" are no longer available for now.
  • An explicit option has been added on the command line to start several instances of Look 'n' Stop. A double-click on looknstop.exe no longer start a second instance.
  • When Look 'n' Stop is started in service mode, if the user log off, Look 'n' Stop is no longer stopped (and restarted).
  • Number of filtering rule is now 128 for the internet filtering.
  • Number of rules/applications is now 200 for application filtering.
  • Number of TCP SPI is now configurable through the registry
Fixes:
  • Automatic selection of the network interface wasn't working in some particular circumstances.
  • After the popup windows is closed now the focus is put again on the initial application that has the focus before.
  • When editing a rule with a plugin, some criteria were not saved properly.
  • When an application was associated to a rule, modifying an attribute (log, allow/block) of the rule was also modifying its activation without looking to the application state..
  • Color display issue when started in service mode.
  • Fixed some attribute update displays in Internet Filtering page when the rule is updated by a plugin.
  • Internet Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): crash at startup with some ethernet adapter names
  • Application Filtering (Windows 2000/XP/Vista only): Added a fix in process identification to detect some leaktests/malicious software changing application process path in user mode.
Known issues:
  • Under XP: IPV6 Applications are not detected
  • Under Vista: DLL Filtering doesn't work (feature is disabled).
  • Under Vista: Service Starting Mode doesn't work (feature is disabled)
  • Under Vista: Features requiring Look 'n' Stop to be started as Admin:
    • The registration to the Windows security center
    • .rie file association
Plugins:
  • Plugins have to give their interface version now. Old plugins are considered as using interface 1.01 by default.
  • Rule edition: IPV6 compatibility, and 16 fields per rule available
  • Rule edition: added an AND/OR operator between two consecutive fields.
  • Rule edition: added an OR criteria with 3 values to be compared with.
  • Rule edition: Log attribute and Application list added to the interface.
You can report any issue here in the forum or at lnssupport@soft4ever.com.
In any case, please indicate (among other things) the windows version you are using.

Regards,

Frederic

I have Vista HP and I can't connect to the internet. I think it's just a setting, but I can't remember which one. Maybe a winsock fix?

I don't think there is a winsock fix under Vista.
Could you confirm:
- by stopping Look 'n' Stop you have access to internet
- which part of the filtering (Application or Internet) is blocking the connection ?

Thanks,

Frederic

All I can tell you is when I exit the program, I still can't connect to the net. After I uninstall the program, I can connect. I don't know what is being blocked by LnS to prevent me from connecting, sorry. When I checked the computer icon, it said something about the nVidia network controller.

To determine if it is the Application filtering or Internet filtering layer, it would be nice if you temporarily disable 'Application filtering enabled' feature found on the ‘Application filtering’ screen, then try browsing to a webpage. If nothing change then try temporarily disabling 'Internet filtering enabled' feature found on the ‘Internet filtering’ screen, then try to browse to a webpage again.

This is not a good sign. It means there is a conflict between drivers.
If you'd like to continue the investigation, the next step would be to execute the LoadOrder utility to check if Look 'n' Stop drivers are started at the right time.

Thanks,

Frederic

Hi Frederic

I'm in beta test mode at the moment Will give it a run and help if I can !

Especially now I've got my validation back after a little run in with SSM.

I'll be switching between OA firewall and LnS if thats okay. Could be interesting

I did as Phantom suggested, no luck. I did not run LoadOrder (I'll try that later). Here's what was said: The network adapter "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues. Maybe someone with Vista who is more knowledgeable may be able to sort it out.

Ok, since it was not working with no filtering enabled (when Look 'n' Stop is stopped), this result is normal.
At which time and where do you get this message exactly ?

This is also the driver I'm using on the Vista computer, but I don't have this message. The version of this NVIDIA driver on my computer: 6.2.0.116.

Look'n'stop 2.06 fails completely on Vista Home Premium 64bit, gives an unsigned driver error popup and then reports a problem in an error window with Driver Installation as the title and "..failed. Error code: 0x800f0203" as the content.

Unfortunately, 64 Bits is not supported.
This will be another story
(for instance a major change: drivers need to be certified and signed)

Does that mean that a 64bit version is not in going to be available for some time?

As soon as LnS is installed, the network icon gets an X through it

Installed and running fine here.
Is LnS 2.06 slightly less secure now that watch thread injection and watch dns calls have been removed?

What shame that there are so many problems with releasing a 64 bit version...

For people not having DEP, yes, we can say that.
For people having DEP, or running Vista I don't think it makes a difference.

Frederic, you mean just the people having hardware-based DEP ?
