Default Raid 1 to Raid 5 via external HDD

Hi All,

I am planning to upgrade my PC from a RAID 1 with 2 x 120Gb hard drives to a RAID 5 with 4 x 120Gb hard drives. My Motherboard only has 2 SATA connections so I will have to install a RAID controller.

My plan is this;
1. Clone the RAID 1 hard drive to the external hard drive.
2. Use the 2 old HDDs and 2 new HDDs along with the new Raid controller to make the new RAID 5 Array.
3. Clone the hard drive from the external HDD to the new RAID 5 array.

Does this sound like a reasonable way to proceed?

My main worry is that I will need a boot disc to get the Raid 5 running and another boot disc to get Acronis running and be left with either an invisible internal drive or an internal drive that won't be recognised!

Can anyone help or reassure me that this will work?

Once I have used the old discs in the new array my only copy of the drive will be on the cloned disc, which wouldn't be so bad I guess...
