Hello everybody,
Like to know what countries do you think are the most productive in making quality (security) software. Limit your choice to 3 and base your opinion on what you are running on your rig or the proggies you have trialed seriously. For me it is: 1. Russia. I run SSM (paid version) and KAV 6 I have trialed SafeNSec and Dr.Web 2.Germany I run MST Defrag, Erunt, TuneUp Utilities 2007 Trialed AntiVir 3. US of A I run BootiT Ng and some proggies of Sysinternals and MS Windows XP sp2 Last edited by egghead : February 9th, 2007 at 03:24 PM. |

Others from Russia : AVZ, RKU, Defensewall (guessing from the name of the developer -Illya Rabinovich-)
Most of the AVs come from ex-communist countries: Kaspersky, Dr. Web (Russia), VBA32 (Belarus), UNA (Ukraine), VirusBuster (Hungary), ArcarVir, ClamAV (Poland), BitDefender (Romania), AVG, Avast (Czech Republic), NOD 32 (Slovakia). Others: Antivir, Ewido (Germany), F-Secure, Jetico (Finland), Norman (Norway), F-Prot (Iceland), Prevx (UK?), IceSword, Powershadow (China), etc. Europe and Asia make good security software. I have to agree with Russia. In addition to being powerful and effective, most of it is either free or very reasonably priced. It's also far less bloated than most of what's produced in the western nations.
Using SSM and AVZ from there. Rick |

Russian Federation based developers are at the very tops in this 21st Century for Security software, at least for Windows based systems, i'm unfamiliar with others ATM.
And i agree with herbalist wholeheartily in complimenting their expertise in keeping those programs super-efficient as well as light-weight and most of all trouble-free. |

SSM is currently developed in the Ukraine not in Russia as far as I know. Important difference. |

Australia have a decent track record. Online Armor, ProcessGuard, AppDefend, Port Explorer, RegDefend, Admuncher. Of course the countries that used to make up the USSR produce many good and plenty great apps of which I use KAV and Regrun. I have a few faves in Security Task Manager(Germany), BOClean(USA) and SuperAdBlocker(USA).

I keep forgetting that the Ukraine is a separate country now. Too many cold war years when "Russia" referred to the entire bloc. I gotta stop doing that.
When Max was developing SSM, didn't he live in Russia? Rick |

In Windows world:
One company in UK seems to have got it. As soon as it matures, and gets a decent user base, the others will bite the dust.
