I'm new to this software and I was just wondering, while trying to recover a hard drive from burnt dvds, if it is normal to have to switch out the disks so much... I've been doing it for well over an hour switching the disk at least every 30 seconds or so. Is there a way to not have to do this?

I have heard that if the drive you made the image of is defragged before creating the image it will help but I never use DVDs as primary backup storage. If I had to resort to one of my third-level DVD backups I would copy the files to a HD first. A much better solution than DVDs for your main image storage is a HD, either internal or external with the external giving you a bit more security since you can disconnect it and put it away. |

Well, I'm trying to put the image onto a HD.... will I just have to keep doing this for hours and hours? I'm worried about hurting my disk drive from opening and closing it so much. The progress bar has not even moved. Can somebody who has done the process with DVDs help and tell me how long I have to do this?

Apart from the slow process in burning to DVD, there have been quite a few reports of having to do the dvd shuffle, like you describe, when it comes to restoring the image.
So you're not alone. ![]() Copying the images from the dvds to a hard drive should simply be a matter of using Windows Explorer to copy them over. Is that what you are doing? |

Is there another way to do it without having to do this? I'm afraid to cancel the process and try another way just to find out that there is no other way and I have to start over.

Ah, okay ... if you have access to another computer and an external hard drive, use that to copy the images from the dvds to the hard drive, then connect the external hard drive to your system, boot with the Rescue cd and use the Recover feature to restore your system. Hopefully the Rescue cd will see the files on the external drive.
