Sound Quality

I just installed skype on my computer to talk wit people overseas. when i was adjusting the sound settings in the "sounds and audio devices" properties, something went amiss and my computer sound output became very "bassy" and there seems to be some kind of interference. Any solutions? because i cant think of any. My best guess is that i may have changed the settings so that the outside speakers are the mic Just a wild guess tho.
