Default bitdefender 10

hello,
for those who wanted to know if bitdefender still was imcompatible with some programs i got this from a bitdefender readme

Known compatibility issues when using :
---------------------------------------
- SpyBot Search & Destroy
- A2 - Security Solutions
- Norton Clean Sweep
- Nero Imagedrive - and other similar applications (only on Windows 9x)

is A2 the old A Aquared?

well i wouldnt use any of those programs anyway, and if i had bd10 i dont really see the need for em anyway.

people who say 'spybot' etc conflicts when they are running a perfectly fine suite which has better detection than spybot for adware/spyware are just darn stupid

I know they are not security software, but I would also add μTorrent and Azureus to that list, as no matter what I tried, BD10 wouldn't allow the open ports for incoming connections, and it was the same with BD9.

There is no comparison between BitDefender and Spybot Search & Destroy simply because they are different products . You should know that BitDefender is antivirus software whereas Spybot Search & Destroy is dedicated anti-spyware software .
  • All kind of viruses , trojans and worms as well as spyware, adware, dialers and other PUP stays behind most antivirus softwares (detects and eliminates files and sometimes important malware start-up reg keys) .
  • A dedicated antispyware software takes care of spyware, adware, dialers, hijackware, other PUP and some extremely dangerous trojans/worms (eliminates all kind of files and registry keys , full cleaning of the malware).

So there is no reason in writing your above statement . BitDefender could have great detection , but you really can't claim Spybot S&D has rubbish detection , when it successfully takes care of everything it detects and it is not bad for free software

The latest BD AntiVirus 10.2 Build 247 (2nd release on 26 Jan 2007) in general, is working with Online Armor 2.0.1.147 beta and CounterSpy 2.1.895, but it seems BD is fighting with OA and CS at Windows logon in Windows 2000. OA alone on Windows 2000 is running OK, but the addition of BD slowed the system quite a bit.

i have to agree with lodore here, bitdefender has a much better detection than crappy spybot, the fact it is compared to the spyware detection in an antivirus program is irelivant, free or not... its poor, lets all use clamav, its free.

Bitdefender (and other Antiviruses) usually only remove files (and sometimes a couple of reg entries) related to a specific infection. Spybot and other Anti spyware apps will remove a lot more traces of registry values and keys etc added by a malware if it can detect it, so Bitdefender may have a greater overall detection of specific malicious files, but, as HitechBoy said, it is an Antivirus and cannot clean up the mess left behind by a spyware/adware infection as good as a dedicated antispyware/adware software will.

nah i dont believe that,

tried and tested spybot, its poor. ... very poor.

the spyware detection AND removal is much better in bitdefender.

Hi Lodore:

The thread is right, if you have BD 10 as I do you don't "need" Spy Bot S&D.

It is an ASW tool the 1st out I think, but that is not important. You are comparing an ASW to an AV which is an invalid comparison.

Now some will say that BD 10 also does rid some SW and that is true but IMHO it is insufficient to rely only on BD for both parasite types. You need an industrial strength ASW and which one you pick is up to you of course.

SS is good but the list goes on. The main point is to have 1 AV active, if that is BD 10 good, 1 ASW active, and 1 in/out protect firewall. That's all we need.

Hi Mrk, I don't mean you, but that's unique!

i know that bitdefender is a antivirus and spybot is a antispyware but the fact is there are better antispyware tools than spybot for free anyway e.g. avg antispyware the free scanning and no realtime version.
or superantispyware free to do on demand scans.
so why not use superantispyware or avg antispyware for on demand scans awith bitdefender rather than the not so good spybot?
no point in ditching a great av for a so so antispyware utility

I hope I didn't leave you with the idea you needed to ditch anything!

All I am saying is use BD 10 + a good ASW, + a good 2 way firewall.

You are perfectly free to use any other products you want to, the question for you to consider is what is your best plan for tools?

The only caveate is don't have 2 av's at the same time as active.

Why don't you post your exact plan here for comments? Record the active tools you will / do have and plan to keep and in the second list record your on demand tool plan.

Do you have a firewall of any type? router?

well i dont believe you need all that,

i aint what you would call a safe-surfer.

i only use dr.web, it handles all the dodgy files i need

and no matter which on demand spyware program i try, it dont find anything.

i dont even have a 2 way firewall, just the router one suits me just fine.

this, along with a defragger and tuneup and my laptop is FASTTTTT and secure

the thread was to point out the compatiblity issues with bitdefender and other products.
it seems that if you have bitdefender you cant use the products mentioned in the bitdefender readme file.
but its only four programs anyway.
you can use any other programs along side BD10

I used BitDefender with Adaware and SpywareBlaster with no problems. Along with using Firefox and ZoneAlarm, nothing got through.
Had Spybot Installed, but after a while, I realized I didn't need it, uninstalled it and never looked back.
