Question Annoying Inkjet Chips ?!?

Hi - My new Canon Pixma printers had a little unpleasant surprise for me today when I went to replace the ink with the cheaper third party replacements - the original Canon inktanks have a small chip on them - the replacements didn't. Because of this the printer would not recognize the replacements. I read that you should gently pry off the chip & use 2 sided tape to secure it to the replacement tank. 3 big problems tho 1) NO WAY could my kids do this if they run out of ink & I'm not home. 2) It's a little sketchy to have a poorly fastened small chip in the moving printhead - really is inviting trouble. 3) I couldn't even get it to work. I gently pryed it off the orig chip, and secured it well to the new tank, trimmed off the excess tape with an exacto knife - gently installed it, NADA - jiggled it around - tried installing it a few times - still NADA! I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with this inconvenience & could pass along some tips - maybe I'm overlooking something. Thanks a bunch! Deca

Hi....

I too have a Canon (PIXMA iP5200) printer. The best advice I can give you is to purchase your replacement inkjet cartridges from LD Products (California) and have then ship them to you ground mail. I live in Ontario Canada and have been using their replacement cartridges for over three years now. I've had absolutely no problems and have saved a bundle with each order.

The products they sell are just like the original (including a chip) but cost a whole lot less.

A friend of mine tried refilling her original cartridges but found out that the refilled cartridges appear empty all the time. Apparently the chip is disabled once the ink cartridge runs out of ink. Now...she never knows when she's about to run out of ink until it actually happens.

You had obviously been sold the wrong 'Model' cartridges.....there is no way you can remove and re-fit the chip without running the risk of ruining your Printer and also (if it's a new one) voiding your guarantee....

Compatibles with 'chip' are plentiful for your model Printer....

Fantastic - I called my "usual" shop yesterday - and they led me to believe ALL the 3rd party inkjets did NOT have the chip - I'm a little surprised at them for this... Anyway - Thank you for the good news! Deca
