Default How long does it take to create an image?

I have a 56 GB hard disk, 45 GB free, roughly 11 GB occupied. It usually takes an hour or less to create a complete image, including the time for archive verification. True Image 9 does the job at night and writes it to an external HD. Is this a reasonable amount of time to create a usable image for a 512 MB, 2.67 gigahertz WP Pro SP2 Dell machine?

Even best guesses will be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, My 600mhz AMD Athlon takes about 1 hour 40 minutes for 25GB.

That seems like a very long time to create an image for a measly 11 gigs. On my machine it only takes 6 minutes or less to create a Full backup of 14+ gigs to an external HDD using either TI 9 or now 10. Granted, my machine is probably faster etc., but that wouldn't explain the disparity between the hour +/- it takes you and the 6 +/- minutes it takes me. http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/shrug.gif

I found that System Restore was monitoring my USB drive where I put the images and that turning it off for that drive noticably reduced the time required.

Many thanks for your helpful estimates, and especially for the system restore hint. Would never have thought of it otherwise. Will try and see what happens.

Core 2 duo 6300 can do OS + programs ( 2.4 gig) in 45 seconds Internal Sata to internal sata.

For that reason I'm looking to replace my External USBs with ESata

At the other extreme my old work machine (Pentium 2 2.4) takes 7 to 8 mins to
image 6.25 gig of OS and programs to another partition.

I would imagine most image to external via usb and this is what really slows it down.

EDIT: almost forgot - once Acronis is known to work Windows Restore should be removed/destroyed ------ a very poor and unreliable program even by MS standards and not required if using Acronis.

Saving to an external (usb) drive will be much longer than to an internal drive. To an internal drive, you can figure, very roughly about 1 minute per GB. In most cases, a backup will go faster than than. I think USB tends to run about twice.

good luck,
sh
