Default Can anyone give me advice?

Hello, I am new to this forum but i have been following it alot. i would like to add a HIPS program to my real time protection.

At the moment I have Comodo firewall, Kav 6, Cyberhawk (which i like, not too many pop ups) and spyware terminator Hips activated. For internet i use Firefox with NoScript. I would prefer program which you can set up and forget and dont have many pop ups. Any recommendations?

You might want to give one of the virtualisation/sandbox products a look - such as BufferZone (free version available), GesWall (free version available), Sandboxie (free version available) or paid ones such as DefenseWall and GreenBorder.

They give true day zero protection without all the pop ups of a standard HIPS program.

Hi Ciderman

Are you looking to replace Cyberhawk or Spyware Terminator then ?

I have Cyberhawk on my work PC and it's eerily quiet. Just don't know how good a job it's doing. I do prefer a bit more info on whats being protected etc.

At home I've tried all sorts. Process Guard was great but now appears a bit defunct. SSM appeared great but too difficult for me Not tried ProSecurity but that also has it's fans here.

Now I have Prevx which is more of a community based HIPS with very good support, great GUI and I feel comfortable with it. ABC modewon't bring many pop-ups.

I also have Online Armor which I'm a big fan of and their support is really, really good. No secret that I'm a beta tester for the next version, but I'm no techie by any means and it promises to be excellent - geared very much to a novice user which is much needed.

Both Prevx and OA run well together and on my laptop the resource usage is fine.

Suppose it depends how much knowledge you have and how much user control you want.

Hope that helps

PS you from the West Country then or is your nick just representative of your favourite tipple ? Good choice

Thanks for your advice Old Monk.

I am not looking to replace Cyberhawk, i really like it and it is doing a good job.Like you said, i am not sure about Spyware terminators Hips protection. I do like Spyware terminators realtime shield.

I have tried Prosecurity paid version and it was bit too difficult for me to use. It was driving me crazy with its pop ups...well i guess it was doing its job.

I am not an advanced computer user and i really dont need much user control. I've actually been thinking of trying out Prevx and see what it is all about.

To Old Monk, I am not from the West Country. It use to be my nickname in university and you guessed right it is related to one of my favourite drinks.

Then you need sandbox HIPS.

You can try prosecurity free or system safety monitor free. Run it in learning mode for a while and it shouldn't disturb you much unless something changes.

Only commenting on the free ones as I'm a tight git who doesn't want to spend any money!, I'm personally torn between the free versions of GesWall and Bufferzone - I need use them both more to decide which I prefer and will deploy on my family PCs. GesWall I have used a lot in previous versions and really liked it and I'm new to trying bufferzone which I also really like but still getting used to.

Sandboxie is excellent but in the free version you have to intentionally/manually launch your browser in the sandbox which is fine for me but I'm thinking of my family PCs where I want the browser automatically virtualised/sandboxed with no user intervention.

Shadowsurfer is another alternative. The full version was available for free not long ago. Naturally, I can't find the link. It's a bit different from Sandboxie, Bufferzone and the rest and I understand there's a nuisance factor of having to reboot. I have it and the key, but haven't tried it yet.
