I read your article. What is D.I.R.T. other than one of those "force impaction devices" that the US Military used to pay big bucks for? On the other hand, perhaps it is a "red-herring?" What do they use that's smarter? Is that possible in their kinds of bureaucracies? Good article!

I think the response to the D.I.R.T. program was what was important.

The program itself didn't seem all that impressive to me, either, but it needed addressed simply from the viewpoint of *(a) exposing it and protecting people from it and (b) driving home the stance that programs such as that one would be detected, regardless of whether it claimed to be some kind of 'law-enforcement program or not.

It's vitally important, in the current climate of hysteria and over-reaction by government, to let everyone know that slimy programs such as this aren't going to be tolerated by the general, informed public.

AT providers, especially, need to be highly visible in protecting their customers from these kinds of things - a trojan is a trojan is a trojan, and should be detected as such, regardless of the source.

DCS did exactly right in their handling of it, and I thank them for it, as well as the others who've provided detection. Pete

Humble me if I invade your thread once again..but I give points to any individual or company who makes an effort to inform and present solutions to any user of the internet and software that feels threathened.

Wayne is doing that.

Here is a similar issue and there is other software out there as we all know.

NETObserve is your all in one solution to monitoring spouses, co-workers, children, employee's and just about any other person you may concerned of that is using your PC!

Please excuse me, but I find surveillance without express prior consent or foreknowledge reprehensible in the extreme and inexcusable under any circumstances. *And anyone who employs web cams for surveillance without such prior knowledge opens themself up to the possibility of Peeping Tom charges, whether intended or not. *No spouse who needs this kind of product needs a marriage. *No employer who needs this kind of software should employ anyone except those who are already deemed untrustworthy (ie, felons and criminals).

IMO.

Oops - I want to make it clear that I know you're quoting, Time Out, and not expressing your endorsement of this horrible software! *My tirade wasn't directed at you!
