Hi robnashville2,

First, download and run: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.gocybersearch.com/ie/

Then reboot and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\ADDCLASS.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\my.css

Then, I was wondering if you have any idea what this does:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FontFix] c:\windows\options\systools\fntfix.exe
And let us know if the Klez removal tool found something. The reason I advised you to run it was this entry:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winkkbm] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Winkkbm.exe

Default Re:rightfinder problem

thank you so much for your help. that seems to have cleaned the problem up. I don't know what i would have done without you. i've bookmarked the site and will read up on how to shape up my system, i've been a bit lax. thanks again.

I ran the klez tool. It said neither of the two klez worms were on my computer. I did get the klez worm about six to 8 months ago but downloaded antivirus gladiator scanner and it either quarantined it so it could do no damage or eliminated it all together i guess.

"Then, I was wondering if you have any idea what this does:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FontFix] c:\windows\options\systools\fntfix.exe"

nope don't know what that is. sorry.

"And let us know if the Klez removal tool found something. The reason I advised you to run it was this entry:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winkkbm] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Winkkbm.exe"

the klez tool said i didn't have klez but after running it and then going back into Hijack This that line wasn't there.

here was my log file after running doing the steps listed,

Hi robnashville2,

For my ease of mind, could you please upload c:\windows\options\systools\fntfix.exe at http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html
The only reference I could find was from 1999 and that person was wondering what it was, without getting a definitive answer.

Please let us know what the results are. Also rightclick the file and let us know what it says under properties.

TIA,

Pieter

virus scan result

Current object: Fntfix.exe

Fntfix.exe Ok

think it may in some way be related to my system credential file. has graphic for the file has the letter i inside of a comment balloon. similar graphic to the exe file that shows me the system credentials (memory, type of sound card, etc)....looks to more of a file for providing info on the computer. odd thing, the Fntfix.exe file was created april of 98 but manufature date in sys credential file is march 99. maybe some type of software fix for all models of this brand. I'm kinda afraid to click on the exec file. been around this long with out any problems so it is probably harrmless. i'll leave it be.

thank you again, pieter, for all your help. you don't know how much of a god send you are to the more technically challenged among us.

Hi robnashville2,

Glad we could help.

I think it is harmless too, just my curiosity acting up.
At first glance it looked viral, but if it has been around since '99 it would have been picked up somewhere along the line.

Pieter
