Hi,
My Ewido licence is up for renewal but I wonder whether I still need because if I have understood rightly, Nod32 gives good protection against trojans and my firewall - Agnitum Outpost - protects me against spyware. So, the question, is Ewido (now known ae AVG Anti Spyware) not overkill ? Thanks for any advice you can give me. Cheers Peter |

Hello !
Well , what you ask is too subjective , the answer will depend on you . If you like AVG AS , buy it . Additional protection is never overkill . You decide . NOD32 is Anti-threat system protecting against all kind of threats -> virus/trojan/worm/spyware/adware/dialer/rootkit/unknown threats .... If you don't buy AVG AS you can always use Ewido micro scanner free and still scan with Ewido's definitions http://download.ewido.net/ewido_micro.exe |

Indeed NOD32 is very good at picking up spyware/malware (especially the more malicious sort).
On my main PC, which uses NOD32, I find that when I run various anti-spyware apps (Ewido, Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc, etc) in the last 13 months I have never picked up anything other than tracking cookies. I think this is to the credit of NOD32 since I am a higher-risk surfer. On my second PC I use a free anti-virus and the anti-spyware apps do pick up malicious malware from time to time. So if you ask me I wouldn't renew a paid Ewido (now AVG Anti-Spyware) license. If you have NOD32 running a free version of Ewido would suffice (allowing you to run on-demand scans every so often). |

No it doesn't: At least a virtumonde trojan wasn't found on my machine, while Kaspersky found it. eMail-threats like numerous Bankfraud-eMails wherent found too, while Kaspersky and AntiVir found them. Greetings Timo |

As this is NOT a yours is bigger than mine forum we'll keep to the topic at hand thanks, the topic is "Nod32 and Ewido/AVG Anti Spyware". And just to be perfectly clear: NOD32 works very well for protection against Spyware, Malware, Phishing, Trojans, Worms and Viruses. Blackspear.

OK - perhaps I should have written "other antivirus-programms detected it". I use NOD32 myself due to it's small footprint and (according to various tests) very good heuristics engine. I did only write down my experiences with programms that I tried (NOD32, Avira, Kaspersky). So please don't say that I'll make a "mine is bigger than yours" threat. If my posting looks so I appologize (I was happy to found the english phrases to even make this posting ) for my bad english. And yeah - due to the virtumonde thing I use Webroot Spysweeper in addition to NOD32. The only thing which isn't covered are those "Bankfraud"-Mails which where found by other antivirus-solutions. To install a second antivirus-programm doesn't seem to be a good idea in my opinion... Greetings Timo edit: Blackspear you wrote that NOD32 can detect phishing. Is it possible that I send you the eMails which are detected as "Bankfraud" by the other two antivirus-programms? If yes where do I sent them ![]() |

@Timo: I run AVG AS 7.5 (formerly Ewido) alongside Nod and feel well protected. I bought a lifetime license for Ewido a while ago and I still think it is a very good program.
If I had not got the lifetime license earlier, however, I would not have any problems with relying on Nod as a stand-alone app either. If I had to choose only one program to keep for good, it would be Nod. So in my opinion, you may well save your money for AVG, but it may add that extra bit of protection you're looking for. Cheers, El Capitan |
