Default Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation hangs at wlecome screen

I just upgraded my version of Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation to build #3832 - all seemed to go well - asked to reboot - but now the system hangs at the welcome screen.

Any body else had problems?

I have reverted to a different First DefenSe snapshot for now - I'll have a look to see if safe mode can recover the situation later.

Looks like this was actually SSM - freezing the system in response to TI updating its driver. But unable for some reason to display a pop up at the welcome screen ....
