I was wondering (Mostly out of curiousity) How Spycop is? and or PestPaatrol, Mainly because I am looking for something slightly better then SpybotS&D and Adaware, and want to check my systems status against stuff that adaware and spybot wont detect, does anyone have any opinions on these 2 programs? is it worth to download a trial of one of them? and if so, which one is better?

If you have both Adaware and Spybot installed you should be pretty well protected against advertising- type spyware.
SpyCop concentrates more on keyloggers, and includes detection for commercial spying programs and other computer monitoring programs. Examples of this might be programs that a boss might use to watch an employee's activities and things like that. These types of programs can be said to be more intrusive to one's privacy and of a greater threat. SpyCop also has a very good reputation in this area of spyware. I have not used PestPatrol but have lately heard some not-so favorable things about it. Like in this thread... http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=13363 |

Hey Comp01,
Looking to test another spyware program? Here's one that I use in addition to Spybot. Aluria's Spyware Eliminator. I registered it last year in Sept.It was very new back then. Support is good. The database has grown by leaps and bounds. ASE targets spyware/adware/keyloggers. It can load at startup and has home page protection. The only thing that I had to get used to was the upgrading process. There isn't a download process bar or guage like it has when updating definitions. It's $29.95 for lifetime license and tech support. There is a trial also. http://www.aluriasoftware.com ![]()

I just might try Aluria, although, whats stopping me, is the "Testimonials" on the info pages, about how people found lupwards to 300 Pieces of spyware, I mean, How can one person, get THAT much spyware? without going around, and purposely downloading it

Hi comp01, The number of entries found has not much to do with the number of spyware programs installed. As an example I installed the MyWebSearch toolbar and AdAware found 31 items on an otherwise clean computer. Installing KaZaa might indeed get you close to 300 found items. Regards, Pieter
