Default "Creative imagination" and FDISR useage

I thought I would pull this out of the rollback thread:
@Peter2150
I hadn't realised some of these functions were not supported.
Might explain slightly tentative replies I got from support sometimes heh.
What else might we be doing that is not supported?
Or are we pretty much clear now: ie is there anything you haven't done lol?

But likewise when I first started talking with Raxco tech support about using the Archive function like we do, they kept saying no no no. After much pulling on them, I finally got out of them, that they were saying there could be activation problem with software installs, that the software wasn't intended for that etc etc. Fact is it works fine, but I don't think they support that functionality.
What activation problems? When?

I don't know about you, but I use FDISR as part of my backup/recovery scheme. In other words being able to have a much older image and an FDISR archive to do a bare metal restore. It works and is very viable, and was never intended by the developers. In fact early on this usage wasn't supported. Now I think they realize it's very viable
Me too: not super critical but the best way for me to have <24/24 recovery of lost set-up. Only needed it once because of crass gross stupidity, but it worked.
Regards

I don't know as I've done it all, but I've done all I need.

The activation problems they were talking about is if you replaced the hard drive. Some software, you change to much hardware and it breaks the activation stuff. Just replacing a harddrive should be an issue, but that was what they were concerned about.

?typo: replacing a HD "should not be a problem"
It wasn't for me.

There are a couple of utilities and posts around that will help "score" your current set-up and any activation problems.
One called: xpinfo.exe from here: http://www.licenturion.com/xp/
This is a great read about activation: from Alex Nichol
