I hope Winrar doesn't go out of business.
Does anyone know the status of rarsoft? http://www.rarsoft.com |

People's untimely passing will always be cause fro regret. *I wish I knew something about what the man did, but I've never heard of rarsoft.
Can you enlighten us? BTW, I though the tribute posted on that site was very tasteful and succinct. *May he rest in peace.

They make a compression utility like Winzip called Winrar.
They are presently on a beta version and I was checking to see if they released the new version when I noticed what happened. |

I doubt will change anything yes winrar is kinda like win zip except hackers and piraters mainly use it.
piraters & hackers mainly use it to break programs in to pices *then scater it alcross the net *to literly several difrent sites. usealy uploaded by many difrent users *with difrent accounts. For example Photo shop is one of the most pirated pices of software many piraters upload small pices *to the net hard to track dowen. Some web places that offer free web space have cought on to this and have now started a movement any one with a winrar file *gets there web site deleted. piraters love it cause you can break up 100 mb to 5 mb files scater it for dowen load put all files back together by unraring it. They use to use win ace but winace kept setting off anti viruse prtectors when you tryed to unace them so now they just stick to winrar

I really do not know who that man was. Maybe the owner of http://www.rarsoft.com? I do not know. I though WinRAR is developed by a russian guy. So as life goes I guess we will see a new distribution site in a few weeks.
BTW I prefer using WinRAR instead of WinZIP. WinACE is a little bit too exotic for me. wizard

I use Winrar instead of Wizip myself.
I’ve been using Winrar all along. I’m not into piracy or hacking. I purchased everything on my computer, even Winrar. |

WinRAR is inded, far superior to WinZip.
Ron Dwight (the man memorialized on the site) was the founder of SOFTRONIC OY who made and distributed WinRAR. He was only 58 years-old. The program is used a lot by hackers. That's too bad, but many, many use the expanded capabilities who have never given a thought to hacking. If you doubt, check the CNet download site for WinRAR. http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10097-100-7366830.html It is inching close to seven MILLION downloads from CNet alone. Here is a portion of the CNet description: "WinRAR is a 32-bit Windows version of RAR Archiver, the powerful archiver and archive manager. RAR files can usually compress content 8 to 15 percent more than ZIP or ARJ files. WinRAR's main features include strong general and multimedia compression, the ability to process of non-RAR archive formats, long filename support, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX), damaged-archive repair, authenticity verification, embedded file comments, and encryption. Unicode is supported in archive file names, allowing non-English file names to be handled painlessly." Get it while you can. Just in case. Mr. Dwight - may you rest in peace, and thanks. John

I can't believe WinRAR will go out of business. Ron may have been the author and the driving force behind it originally, but I believe there is a substantial group of people involved now.
Winrar is far superior to Winzip and more popular than Winace, so I do believe it will survive. It's a shame that Ron went so early, but at least he made a significant contribution to the world before he went.
