I have XP Home, IE7 & WMP 10.
I ran the latest Belarc Advisor & some of the hotfixes/security updates don't have a green check mark by them. .NET Framework 1.1 S867460 & M886903 Windows Media Player 10 KB917734_WMP10 SP0 doesn't have a green check mark by it but KB917734_WMP10 does. Windows Media Player 9 KB917734_WMP9 SP0 doesn't have a green check mark by it but KB917734_WMP9 does. I have WMP 10 so the WMP 9 updates aren't relevant, right? I ran MBSA and it says I have "strong security" & I went to the Microsoft update site and there were no high priority updates for me. So do I need to get the updates from the KB articles or am I ok? Thanks in advance, Thomas |

I take only the updates marked as "critical" at the Windows Update site.
I consider anything else as optional. |

917734 - critical update, which fixes security vulnerability in WMP 9 & in WMP 10.
Net Framework 1.1: SP1 Update - improves security | 887219 - fixes security issue.

Ok, thanks folks.
I think I'll stick with just installing the high priority updates from microsoft update and pass on any of the custom ones. I was just curious as to why Belarc couldn't "verify" those patches. regards, Thomas |
