Tired of Nero-Burning - Alternatives?

Because i don't need all the functions of blown up software on my Laptop (first Photoshop was killed), Nero Burning is going to fall. I need some suggestions regarding small alternatives. I heard about Prasi Ones, Sateira, etc. Any suggestions from your experinces folks?

 

ashampoo burning studio. i couple of ppl recommended it to me when I was looking for a nero alternative.

 

I tested that one, seams to be good, but - don't ask me why - i don't like it. I think i don't like these 'What would you like to do' Dialogs.

 

u mentioned prassi ones, have u tried that one?

it wouldve been my first alternative, but i could never get it to burn a disc.

 

If there is a shareware available i will give it a try.

 

You mentioned Sateira. I use their DropToCD. It burns DVDs, ISOs, bootable media & more. 10x less system resources than Nero. And the whole program is 1.5MB vs 125+MB for Nero.

zapjb, can it verify cds/dvds after burning?

 

My new (old) PC come with Prassi CD burner, its not bad.

I like HT Fireman, find somewhere version 1.4 its latest free version after that they charge for software....

But it supports BURNProof. Also you can use burning simulation.

Ones and Sateira are indeed two nice programs.
- ONES is very impressive; to the interface from ONES one has to get used to.
- I like Sateira, but it does not support verify cds/dvds after burning, thats bad.

 

It does. I have been using Ones for almost a year now. I would say my overall success rate for burning is about 95-98%. Give it a try.

For databurning in ONES what do you use from your experience for closed CD's? SAT Mode 2 closed or TAO Mode 2 closed?
And for Multisessions?

I'm moving onto Roxio Media Creator 9 (hoping to get my hands on the OEM version when it's out) simply because I need a software that is user friendly for the whole family. ONES is light and driverless, but IMO more suited to advanced users (that's me out).

 

I burn data cds & movies if that's what you are asking. I normally would use track-at-once mode 2 closed for burning. I've done quite a few cds with session-at-once but I never added more stuff to the first session. I hope I've answered your questions.

 

I personally don't change any settings unless it promts me to do so, so I leave it as TAO Mode 2 Open/closed

Thanks, i will give Prasi further tests. So far i like it very much for my Laptop.

 

For Music burning I use Apple iTune, and for datas...sorry but I still uses Nero. It's hard for me to replace Nero, it looks elegant, cool and very reliable...and aside from that, it's made in Germany. So it has a German quality engineering.

 

I would highly recommend ImgBurn which is free (although you should make a small donation if you use it). I used to use Nero myself, but have now switched to IB. It doesn't curently support multi-session though.

I use ImageBurn also. Great program for burning images, and 'hey,as i see suports building ISO files now. That's fantastic, didn't knew that. Multisession i nearly don't use, so they often make trouble.

As well as ISO creation/burning, it also supports burning files/folders to CD/DVD on-the-fly.

IB is actively developed by a very talented programmer, and is the only free solution that has worked for me.

There is also a very helpful forum.
