Default Browers Comparison

Hi! *

Just out of interest, would anybody like to give feedback and rank the following browsers (and any new ones) in terms of security, ease of use, speed, features etc

Internet Explorer
Opera
Netscape
Mozilla
NetDIVE Oxygen browser
OffByOne browser
MyIE etc

As I'm using a couple of them, in terms of speed, Opera is the KING followed by OffByOne, Oxygen browser and finally IE/MyIE (not try Mozilla or Netscape)

Any followup .......

I totally agree with your estimation of Opera as being No.1 in all areas. Pete

Security and Explorer are like oil and water. * Opera is best when it comes to security. * My biggest complaint with opera is its stability, I think I crashed it within the first hour of installation.

Haven't had any problems with Opera crashing here.

LF - Have you tried the one I'm using? Pete

I used 6.0 when it first came out.

I'll give the newer version a test run and see if I still have problems.

thanks.

Netscape uses the source from Mozilla for their browsers.

Opera and Mozilla are both good alternatives for the Internet Explorer.

Hi everybody!

Not to disappoint OPERA users including myself, I have done more tests on speed factor alone for OPERA, NetDIVE Oxygen browser and OffByOne browser and the result surprises even me. The new ranking based on speed alone would be:

1) OffByOne browser
2) NetDIVE Oxygen browser
3) OPERA 6.01
4) IE6/MyIE

Note: You can actually see the total load time of a webpage for OPERA and NetDIVE Oxygen browser. As for OffByOne browser you'll have to do a manual time count.

Anyone want to dispute my finding?

Since OPERA 6.01 and IE6/MyIE are full featured browsers and load GIFs etc, do the other browsers?

Not a fair test if one browser is loading more than another.

Did you test on many Web sites?

I gave it run and it seemed much better. * Only crashed when I switched skins ( which I could care less about ).

Liquid_Fish - Glad to hear it's working better for you. Yeah, I don't use skins, either - just whatever the default is. Enjoy!

WE Sim - Nice to hear about your findings. I'm curious, though - are you on dial-up, cable or what? I've never put a stop-watch on either here, but Opera is perceptibly faster on page loads than either my copy of IE 5.5 w/SP2 or Netscape 4.7 (I'm not into the newer IE or Netscape browsers yet - they just keep getting bigger and bigger and resources are my main concern here running WinMe). Hi Blacksheep and spy1!

Blacksheep, I enabled 'Load Images' and 'Enable Image Animation' if you meant by loading GIFs in other browsers.

spy1,

OPERA definitely beats IE/MyIE handsdown. No doubt about that.

I'm using dial-up (56K) and thats the reason why I'm looking for the fastest browser in order to save time and $ on net surfing. Don't believe what's stated at OPERA webpage as being the fastest browser on earth. Try it and see for yourself.

Actually, NetDIVE Oxygen browser beats OPERA by a few seconds when browsing whereas OffByOne performs better than both.

There's only one problem so far I faced with OffByOne browser and that my mouse's scrolling button no longer works.
