Using TI9, latest build, on Dimension 4550, 2.4G, 1G Ram, 250G C: (~120G used) b/u to Maxtor Ext. 200G usb/firewire (USB as from bootCD TI9 could see firewire to write but not recover?). First tried to use SZ on ext and received corrupt MBR on verify (sadly had activated rec. mgr. at some point in time, been using for 2+yrs. started w/TI8, to internal, but needs have changed) so used MBR Autowrite to restore MBR and received successfull verify in windows but from bootcd was told Block Bitmap was corrupted. So, I removed SZ on external, ran chkdk /r, and defrag on both drives, and quick format on ext. Question is, I'm running b/u from bootcd (for least chance of corruption) to empty external usb (NO SZ) with verify and it says 9hrs remaining after 1.5 hours(started at 12)?? Used to take ~4 hrs in windows for initial full for ~120G, why so long?? If should take this long, can I abort and run overnight without causing issues? Actually did get a respone from techsupport in less than 24hrs, but I'd already done the suggested (chkdsk/r and eliminate SZ).

Does the time estimate also show a long time like that if you use the version 8 boot cd?

I don't know, as I haven't tried it. I'll see if I can find it...anyone else with other thoughts?

The rescue cd can be slower than windows on some systems. I know it takes quite a bit longer on my computer using the rescue cd to backup to a usb drive than to do it from windows. I think it depends on how well the linux drivers support a particular usb chipset.
If you still want to do the backup from the rescue cd, you could save some time by not having it do the verify. Boot back into windows after the backup is done and run the verify from windows. |

terminated b/u to try some other routes..only boot CD I could find was TI8 bld 763 and it gave me cannot read from 0-0 which lead me to believe my MBR was not corrected by "MBR Autowrite" so I restored the MBR with window restore disc and changed the ext. back to firewire, removed the other USB drive (2.5" simpletech 60G, for quick portability) and see how this works, and, thanks, I agree, will leave out the veify in boot...

TI9 bld 3677 does not see my ext Maxtor One Touch (w/none of Maxtor' s/f intalled) on firewire at all now, only usb, in the boot version...any ideas, Aconis, I'm tired of jumping through hoops! Please help, or monitor these forums correctly, seldom poster, for a reason, avid reader, though...

Have you tried the trial version of TI 10? It may have better support for your hardware. If it works you may want to upgrade.

I have an external enclosure (Acomdata) with the Cypress chipset and back up to a Seagate 200 GB HDD via firewire. V10 has no problems seeing the drive in Windows or with the Recovery CD...maybe firewire will be better in the new version
