I'll try my best to help you.

First, what version of Windows are you running?

First, Make sure your Microsoft File and Printer sharing are enabled.

Right-click your Local Area Network connection and choose properties.

Make sure it is as shown in the screenshot:

The easiest way I can tell you to try and access it is via UNC path.

From your laptop:

Click Start
Click Run
Type "\\computername" where computername is the name of your pc that has the printer installed
Click Enter

This will bring up a list of all shared files and printers.
Double-click the printer and click Yes when Prompted.

Be sure that the Microsoft File and Printer sharing are enabled on both the PC and the Laptop

Let me know if that sheds any light on the problem

I was telling you this all under the assumption that both computers are on the same network and can see each other.

Do you have a switch, wireless or router set up that connects these two?

Does your router hand out IP address as well? I'm sure it does, but I am just wanting to make sure your 2 computers can even see each other before we worry about getting the printer to work.

Can you PING either computer from the other?

Can you verify that they both have an IP address and are on the same Subnet Mask?

To do this, click Start -> Run -> Type "CMD" hit enter -> Type IPCONFIG hit enter.
