I am interested in copying a program off a hd. The CD is lost. I don't need anything else from that hd,so I dont want to clone the whole hd.I know its allmost impossible to copy programs but in reading these threads,I thought someone posted a link to a program that copies programs. I think it was a moderator who posted the link, but I cant find the thread.

Hello Chip2,
Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response. Please note that Acronis True Image is not meant for transferring applications. You can have all your applications working correct after restoring only if you restore the image of the entire hard disk or the separate partition (with the operating system and applications installed). Thank you. -- Ivan Sarychev

What you are looking for is a migration program and there are lots of them out there -- but the fine print tells you they transfer your data and program settings but not actually installations of the programs too. Ime, it's best to reinstal rather try migration of a program -- even if most of the registry settings are transferred, some of them might work because of other registry settings on the first computer that aren't directly identified with the program in question.
good luck, sh |
