Now I've been looking around at various software, free and pay.
I ended up with Diskeeper 8.0 Workstation. Will try this software and see what it brings out.

If anyone has any other to recommend please share the infos here

Good choice, i think Diskeeper is the best defragger.

You may also try PerfectDisk 2000 at www.raxco.com

No doestn perform well and hangs the system most of the time. Defrag takes an average of 3hours with the Xp defrag

when done with others take 15minutes..... go figure...

I just defraged today and my computer is still a little slow. I would get another defrag program but I don't want to really pay for something that M$ offers for free.

What are your problems with O&O Defrag 2000?

I'm trying now O&O Defrag V4 Professional, and have no problems at all with the software.

Works great on my PC (WinXP Pro), have tried Diskeeper and Raxco PerfectDisk both as well, but I was not complete satisfied about those two defragmenters, nothing is perfect but O&O is IMO, together with Defragmenter Pro Plus, one of the best on the market.

One remark: Defragmenter Pro Plus, http://www.abexo.com/ , has a complete different approuch then other Disk Defrag Utils, but works great (and is very fast!).

Ciao,

Smokey

Smokey

Answer me this : Why would most defrag util hang my system in WinXP under NTFS and not Diskeeper ?

Now the windows defrag, o&o 2000 defrag and various others out there will hang the system or the HD will stop working hanging everything.

Taking into considaration that nothing else is running, no background programs, nothing in the tray, no network activities ect.....
