Backup Image Files To CD

Can you copy an Image Files onto CD's using a 3rd party software, such as Nero? I have tried, but when I go to restore to a hard drive the Acronis windows pops up and says corrupt.

I am not quit sure what you mean "Verify Image!

There is a command in TI accessible from the main menu to Validate (verify) the image. It computes a checksum of the archive and compares it with the stored value in the image. If they agree it assumes that the file is readable and correct.

I burn image files to DVD from time-to-time but I consider it an inferior way of imaging compared to an extra internal HD or USB drive. I Validate the image on my HD using TI when I create it and I always use Nero's (in my case) "verify after burning" option to ensure the DVD (CD) is good after burning it.

Edit: Are you able to restore from an image if it is not on a CD?

Yes, you can. However, you should not split the already created backup archive into CD-sized parts using a third-party software, as Acronis True Image is capable of restoring backups split with it's own "archive splitting" function only (see section 5.3.6 of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home User's Guide for details).

In fact, there is no way to split the already created backup archive. If you wish to split the backup archive into CD-sized parts, you have to choose the corresponding option upon the backup archive creation (see the above mentioned section of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home User's Guide).

Please also note that in order to validate\restore the backup archive spanned over several CDs\DVDs you should insert disc that contains the last volume of the backup archive first and then follow the wizard's instructions.

If you are still unable to restore the backup spanned over several CDs, please provide us with the following information:

- What exact Acronis True Image version and build number do you use?

You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window.

- What operating system do you use?

- Describe the way you burn the backup archive to CDs in more details;

- Let us know the exact version and build number of the third-party CD-writing software that you use to place backup on CDs;

- Are you able to validate\restore the backup when it is located on a hard drive?

- Do you receive any error messages upon the attempt to restore the backup from CDs?

- How many CDs does backup archive in question occupy?

- Describe actions taken before the problem appears step-by-step.
