Hi, folks. I just recently purchased a new computer and before I set it up, I need help in knowing how to get the music that I ripped from 25 CDs onto my Windows Media Player, off of or transferred from my WMP so that I can put that music onto the WMP that will be on my new computer. Also, I need help in knowing how to transfer my music files that are on my WMP to the iTunes Media Player. Thanks for your help in advance. BTW, below is a screen shot of my WMP Rip settings which shows that my settings are set to "Best Quality" which uses about 105 to 155 MB per CD(240 to 355 Kbps...although I'm not quite sure what the Kbps part means). Therefore, the amount of space use up my 25 ripped CDs is at most 3875 MB. Therefore, I would also like to know: What sort of blank media would I need to use where at most, 3875 MB of information could fit onto it?

for that much space you'd need a dvd, iomega rev disk, tape drive, or just regular hard drive. i dont know how much space itd save you, but id set it to use a constant bit rate and then lower it to 192Kbps. that would be sufficient for me.
i dont have itunes so i cant give specific info on importing files. i also dont know how well itunes works with wma files. i usually work with mp3s.

I f you have WinXP just make a local network, or why not using a LinQ USB cable and just connect the to PC's.

As far as the 192Kbps goes, I'm going to go ahead and change my settings to that as a friend of mine recommended that to me also. As far as the constant bit rate goes, I was reading the explanations of the bit rate on WMP's Help page, and it sounded like the variable bit rate format(which I have mine set at) seemed to be more pratical. Anyone else have an opinion on this(or iTunes bit rate format)? And as far as importing my WMP files to iTunes, I did find a thread from an internet search that instructs you on how to do so, however, since I have changed my settings to 192Kbps and since I am planning on ripping my entire CD collection to my new computer(I think close to 500 CDs by now), I'm just going to go ahead and re-ripp the 25 CDs that I ripped to my present computer, to my new computer(on iTunes) at 192Kbps. I was just trying to save some time by transferring or importing those 25 CDs from WMP to iTunes on my new computer. |

Tommy, even though the solution to my problem has been solved, I'm curious about what you said about making a local network. What is that and how does one go about doing that? |
