Default Problem with PerfectDisk 7.0

When I click the defrag button, it stats to analyze the drive then the PC reboots by itself without defragmenting.
I tried to shut down all my security Softwares but it does the same thing.
The only Software I have install since my last defragmentation is FDISR. Any conflicts between them? I have excluded all $ISR files in PerfectDisk.

Thanks for help.

Assuming you have build 46 of Perfect Disk 7 installed, PD will automatically exlcude the appropriate $ISR files to prevent boot problems (perhaps one or 2 builds or even late version 6 builds do too, can't recall precisely). You should not have any conflict going between PD7 and FD-ISR since they're both from Raxco and I and others also run them together.

I would run chkdsk at boot-time with the "fix" option first and if that didn't improve things I'd be right on the phone to Raxco support..... assuming you aren't at the South Pole (which hasn't got Polar Bears as far as I know ).

Thanks for your help crofttk. I had already tried to ru chkdsk at boot time without success.

I know there are no Polar Bears in the South Pole...

I hope that, by "without success", you mean chkdsk found no errors and/or it didn't help your problem.

Sorry, I don't have other ideas for you at this point. Perhaps someone else has run into this but Raxco support is the best, so don't be afraid to call them if able.

Yeah I meant chkdsk did not find any error.

I just sent a Email to Raxco Support.

Hi,

I'll assume your using XP - If so you can run chkdsk from, the "recovery console", providing you have your XP disk. See:

http://kellys-korner-xp.com/win_xp_rec.htm

many other sites describe how to use, and even install the "Recovery Console", & may be simpler to understand. The first time I used Recovery Console from XP's disk, I looked at perhaps 5 sites describing, how to use it. I don't know if this will help with PD, but you mentioned a failed CHKDSK. BTW I've been told this is the best & most powerful use of CHKDSK.

Good Luck & Take Care

Hi,

I had similar issues with PD in the past. Here's what worked for me:

Code:
Start/Run/Regedit Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimize If value is Y (enabled) change value to N to disable.

*IF you have Spyware Doctor installed on your pc:

Code:
1. Exit from Spyware Doctor (to exit from Spyware Doctor please right click on the Spyware Doctor icon in the notification area (next to the clock on the Windows taskbar) and select Exit from the menu that appears) 2. Delete the file 'ikhlayer.sys' from c:\windows\system32\drivers\ 3. Restart Spyware Doctor Chkdsk, defrag and error-checking should now work.

*IF you have a program called FOLDER LOCK.....you must UNINSTALL it as it does NOT allow PD to move certain files when defragging, thus resulting in the crash

Hopefully one of these will fix your issue. Good luck.

Birdman,
Thanks for your feedback. I tried to change the BootOptimize to "N" in the
registry, unfortunatly in my case it did not solve the problem.

And I don't have Spyware Doctor and FolderLock either.

O.K. problem solved.

It was the driver "fwdrv.sys" from Kerio who was conflicting with Perfect Disk.

I had tested Kerio last month and the poor uninstall program had leftover that driver. I removed it manually and Perfect Disk is not crashing anymore.

Special thanks to Susie from Raxco Support.
