Hi,

How important/helpful would it be to update the following drivers:

Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controller
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller 24DD
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller 24D7
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller 24D4
Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller 24D2

I find trying to find these drivers at Intel very difficult, & very scary! If someone could help me find these, a 1000 thank yous would be given. Also see pic:

Note I just finished the scanner driver update. Geez what a pain that was. Also any secrets for successful install would generate, another 1000 thank yous. I would presume for the above Intel drivers, all tray items should be shutdown?

Special consideration PG 3.410 should it be in learning mode, or disabled. PG only disables a little bit.

All the others should be contained in the chipset driver. Doing a quick search for the info you have, the chipset appears to be an Intel 875P - http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=816 - don't install this unless you're sure that's the chipset you have, though.

And yes, you will want to disable PG, it has a tendancy to botch driver installs if you just put it in learning mode, IME.

 

u still using that site? just download the latest drivers from the manufacturers site.

if u know what intel chipset your computer uses, u can download the latest drivers from the intel downloads section

the long link gives 14 differnt downloads, does this help identify the proper "chipset" driver?

it appears u have the intel 865 chipset. the driver can be downloaded from here.

 

Looks like I might have been wrong about the chipset, although there's not much info about your motherboard listed.. is it an OEM system (brand name, such as Sony)? If you want to be absolutely sure you can find the chipset with this utility.

WSFUser: I found a forum posting mentioning the 865 chipset, but nothing official.. did you find something better?

That driver installer supports several different chipsets, though (which you can see in the Release Notes). The list is of different versions, with the latest being on the top. If something does happen to the driver install, you should be able to restore last known good configuration, although having a drive image would always be safest. You may also want to check the OEM website for drivers, if applicable.

 

the board is made by ASUS for Sony computers. heres an example pic of CPU-Z info for that board.

At step 12 - I'm to choose one of the following:

Right-click on the line containing the description

PCI standard host CPU bridge
or
PCI standard ISA bridge
or
PCI standard PCI-toPCI bridge
or
PCI System Mgt. Bus
or
Standard Dual PCI IDE controller
or
Standard Universal PCI to USB Controller
(This line will be selected)

I'm thinking the winner is: PCI standard host CPU bridge, See pic.

There is not an exact match to Intel's verbage.

Also I will not proceed til I run that app Notok suggested & will post back.

Hi Guys,

First Intel(R) pro/100 VE upgrade went smooth, otherwise I would not be typing this now. Whew! When the file extracted, it unzipped to c:\intel10.3. I used autorun.exe to install. Rico's proud. Then thinking this was just a folder for unzipping. I deleted the folder. Big mistake, tried going online & failed, not only that lost control of the computer. Hard shutdown, reboot & recover Intel10.3 folder from the recycle bin, & all is well.

Notok - I'm not quite sure what you mean by the first one?

Intel's installation step 11 "click on PCI Bus"

From Intel's installation instructions (post #9, & this post) step #12 "PCI standard host CPU bridge." Is this what you mean by first choice? And which one is it in the pic.?

I'm supposed to match on of the above to the pic. then right click & choose properties. The six above choices do not match the words in the pic. Hence I'm not sure which to right click in device mgr.? My guess is: PCI standard host CPU bridge matches or I would right click (from pic) Intel(R) 82801EB PCI Bridge -244e.

9B Installing The Windows XP INF files AFTER OS Installation



So your saying I can use the "Interactive Mode" for install? If this is correct, then is 9B assuming after OS install, the user un-installs the inf then, clean installs the new inf files? Where step 6 "interactive install" is upgrading the exsisting inf files? Interactive seems the easier way to go!

ive never had an intel chipset, but i always go for a GUI install or setup.

Step #4 did not happen, reboot > no on-screen instructions & could not accept default settings, as there were none!

i rele dont know what to do in ur case, but at least the network drivers are updated. that should be sufficient for the time being.

 

I wouldn't worry too much about the exact wording until afterwards. Right now you want to focus on getting infinst_autol.exe to install. Every time I've run this it has immediatly brought up the install wizard and finished the job. My guess is that you have some security software preventing it from running or setting itself to startup. Try disabling any/all security software and try again, make sure scripts can run as well.

Then the interactive install is ok? I don't understand why they would list interactive insall as one procedure, & another install as after the OS is installed & from dev. mgr??

PG was set to disable, would PG disabled still block a driver install? Looked at PG's alerts & logs & did not find anything.

Thinking that perhaps a security app. on the reboot may block the driver install. I used MSconfig boot section & chose safe mode, tried the chipset install, the install did not call or reboot, forcing the reboot still no luck.

Where do I look for scripting, besides IE?

Note: Security apps. disabled & still disabled on reboot are PG & RegDefend. Other security apps disabled for install, then enabled on the next boot are. Spysweeper 5, ZApro, Nod32. Spyblaster I don't think would block scripting would/could it?

Also note the correct wording only applies to Step 9B "Installing with OS installed using the device mgr see post 17. Step 6 Interactive install does not care about wording.
