removing entries after uninstallation

    a friend was wondering how do you remove some leftover entries after uninstalling ewido

    example:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_EWIDO_ANTI-SPYWARE_4.0_DRIVER\0000 (Service=ewido anti-spyware 4.0 driver)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_EWIDO_ANTI-SPYWARE_4.0_DRIVER\0000 (Service=ewido anti-spyware 4.0 driver)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_EWIDO_ANTI-SPYWARE_4.0_DRIVER\0000 (DeviceDesc=ewido anti-spyware 4.0 driver)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_EWIDO_ANTI-SPYWARE_4.0_DRIVER\0000 (Service=ewido anti-spyware 4.0 driver)

    when he tried to delete them he was unable to.

    any ideas?

    Did he re-boot after un-installing ewido so that the service can be un-registered properly ?

    a program called Ccleaner should help. it has a registry cleaner in it that should help. It will get rid of the left over registry things.

    It is possible that you must change the permissions of these keys with the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe), so that you get full access.

    If you are a Windows XP Home Edition user, changing permissions so you can delete these legacy elements in the registry is not readily available. Below is a link that provides a procedure for adding the Security tab in Windows XP-Home Edition.

    Once you add this tab feature for XP HE, then you need to right click on the Legacy entry, select Permissions in the drop down menu, and then give your FULL Control. Then you can Delete these entries.
