Unhappy Am I secure enough?

Hey. I'm new to the security stuff so bare with me. Here's what I'm running so far: NOD32 version 2.5 (latest signatures), Zonealarm Pro firewall, Firefox (with noscript, adblock (filterset.g), reg mechanic, regscrub, adaware pro and peerguardian 2. If there are some security softwares I should consider please advise me.

Looks pretty good to me. You can see various setups within the link of my signature.

Cheers

That's a lot more than I use but about the same as some others. Ultimately what you need depends on your surfing behaviour as much as anything else. There are activities and programs that I don't trust which other people are happy to do but that mean that extra precautions need to be taken. Moreover your level of paranoia/risk tolerance is an important part of the equation, "when do you feel comfortable?".

All that said I would personally look at Ewido for antispyware but I don't know how much better the pro version of Adaware is compared to the free version. I find that the free Adaware hasn't done the job for me in the past however Ewido and Spybot S&D both have. A lot of people round here love SuperAntiSpyware.

Have a look at Blackspears configs and let us know what you think. He has a lot more experience in these matters than me

These are more than enough.
I"m running only NOD32, Ad-aware and no firewall and I feel more than comfortable. ..and let's not forget Avira as on-demand scanner.

It's a difficult question to answer. Because the answer..depends on what you do..how you use your computer, what sites you visit, what software you run, who else may be on your network, etc.

The biggest impact is the head on your shoulders..be smart.

For me? All Windows Updates, I never leave the local administrator account with a <blank> password (that's a BIG no-no), and I'm always behind NAT. I use Opera for my browser. That's about it.

I only hit safe sites, comprised mostly of a few tech forums. I do not touch that system infesting P2P software, and only use legit software. Webmail...Outlook Web Access at the office..on the Exchange server which also has NOD32/XMON.

I'd normally add that Spybot..updated and immunized is good..but honestly I don't think I've run that on my home machine since it went to version 1.4.

But speaking of security..I just did this thread....interesting stuff I've been playing with...

As has been stated by some of the other guys, if you are a good boy, this is plenty of protection. If you aren't and do bad things on the web, well no amount of protection is going to prevent everything from getting in. That being said, it's much more than I use on my home machine. See my sig for what I run... that's it on my end... perfectly happy and feel quite safe with that.

If you don't go to porn sites and crack sites, this will probably be plenty.

I use NOD32, Online Armor, Zone Alarm Free, and Spyware Blaster and I feel very secure.

I guess much depends upon your surfng habits.

Yeah that sounds like heaps of protection. I'm currently using NOD32(paid for), Outpost Pro(paid for), Webroot Spysweeper(paid for), and the free version of Process Guard. Used it for a while now with no problems.

Thanks for the replies guy. Yeah, I'm preety paranoid about security because I don't have any hardware security (like a router). My secuirty is all software. Still , if there are still some apps I should try out please suggest them. I've tried Acronis True Image and its great so far.

NOd32 , tiny firewall and first defense isr is the best combination which gives speed without compromising security.

Online Armor and First Defense ISR would be my picks.

Cheers

Blackspear

I looked for the contents of your security in your sig but could not find it?

Do you consider Windows Live Messenger a security threat??

I'm not familiar with some of the software your using, but I noticed your running NOD32, so I'd say your pretty well protected against most threats along with Zone Alarm Firewall.
