Hi Tazmin,
Welcome at Wilders. ![]() Looks to me you got the basics covered. Read around in the forums to learn how to use them optimally and maybe spot some extra´s you might like. Enjoy your stay. Regards, Pieter

It's not what you use, it's how you use it. All the best software in the world won't save your butt if you dont know how to use it correctly. And apply common sense, just because you have Virus protection doesnt mean you should trust it to detect everything and try opening email attachments ending with .pif even if it says it's okay. As some idiots (who should really know better - That is people with hundreds of posts of security forums similar to Wilder's) have done. |

Just a quick note. Don't run browser Hijacker and the latest version of Spywareguard at the same time. Spyward Guard has superior Browser Hijacker built in.

BTW Spybot s&D also has safeguards against being hijacked too. Still, i dont like locking my browser settings, so i never do that/ |

Besides, the locking of the internet options provides practically no protection against hijacks.
Some hijackers even implement that lock themselves to keep victims from changing back their Startpage.

YES, locking the settings seldom does any good except for locking search and start pages, which doesn't guarantee that this will stop everything. I use spybot and SpywareGuard to lock home Page and host file. I don't see any purpose in locking control panel, since that's only local. It's important to create system backups and host backups in SpywareGuard often. These settings will usually allow you change back to any earlier time you have backups for.

Personally I wouldn't lock anything, control panel or the registry keys itself. |
