    Hi freakedout,

What version of Windows are you using?
If it concerns ME or XP, do you have System Restore running?

    Regards,

    Pieter

oh thank u , ok when I try to open anything this is the EXACT thing that comes up:

Error reading Spywareguard definition! The file may be corrupted or another program may have tampered with them.

Run LiveUpdate to download the latest spyware guard definitions. This message will appear when you try to start covered file types unless you disable protection in the spywareguard control panel

That is the message but as u know I can't open anything..

OK. Before going to the page I gave you before, tell me this:

Is the SG icon in your systray and if so, what happens when you rightclick it?

    Regards,

    Pieter

OK. What happens when you rightclick the taskbar?
Can you bring up the Taskmanager and select sgmain.exe and end the process?
If that succeeds do the same for sgbhp.exe

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi freakedout,

    What exactly is scaring you?
If it is the killing of the processes in Taskmanager, there is no need. I just tried, before I advised you to do it, without ill effects.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Any (empty) part of the Taskbar will do. Taskmanager should be the second option from the bottom.

    OK. Are you sure?
It could be that you would have to scroll down a little to see all the processes.
If it really is not there, that means it shut itself down after that error.
In that case you should be able to start other programs.
Please try and let me know,

    Pieter

One more thing to do first.

If possible goto Start > Programs > Startups
Rightclick SpywareGuard there and choose remove.

If you succeed in doing so, reboot normally first. If it doesn't work try the suggestions at that site.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    for the site it says:
Choosing Last Known Good Configuration provides a way to recover from problems such as a newly added driver that may be incorrect for your hardware. It does not solve problems caused by corrupted or missing drivers or files.

my message said that it was corrupted, then does that mean I cannot use this?

Please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip the file, put it on floppy and transfer it to the other computer.
Then doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so do not fix anything yet.

    Regards,

    Pieter
