What copy do I build on??

When backing up with a differential or incremental backup, do I choose the original full copy, or do I choose the last differential or incremental copy to build on?? Thanks for your help.

 

To do a differential, you always choose the full as the starting point, even if this differential is not the first differential you are making.

To do the first incremental, again choose the full image, for every subsequent incremental choose the last incremental already made.

There will be an info screen reminding you of these rules before you make your choice - if you didn't disable it.

 

The only thing I would add is this:
If you are setting up a Scheduled Task (INC or DIFF), then you plug in the same image name as the FULL. TI will know what to do even if there are multiple INC/DIFFs already created.

 

P.S. - The above also applies if you set up a task but select not to run (schedule) it. That is to say, a manual task that you created can point to the FULL no matter how many times you've run it.

As for incremental and differential images creation, please be aware that independently of which volume (.tib file) of the multivolume image archive you have selected Acronis True Image will recognize all of them as the entire image archive (all volumes should reside in the same folder) and create a subsequent differential or incremental image. There is absolutely no point in selecting full, last incremental or any other particular volume. You can select any of them.

What concerns restoration, the is no difference as well. Independently of which volume (.tib file) of the multivolume image archive you have selected for the restoration Acronis True Image 9.0 will recognize all of them as the entire image archive (all volumes should reside in the same folder) and suggest you several restore points according to the dates when the initial full image and consequent incremental\differential images were created.
