Hey Guys,
I have a question. I have a friend that's laptop hard drive icon changed on his second partition (D: ). The C: drive icon is ok. I have researched the net and figured out how to do a regedit hack to set it to whatever you want, but we don't know how it changed to begin with. Thats the first problem. The second problem is: Does anybody know where on an XP system you can find the default XP Icon for drive? I have been searching for hours and can't find it anywhere. Anybody have a clue? Thanks

for ur first problem see this page for repairing the icon cache, there are also some programs that can do this for u (iconpackager or tweak ui xp)
for ur second problem, the icon should be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll

Any of these might help too.
Take your pick from here http://icone.goldenweb.it/index_file...e/default.html Or like this Changing your hard drive's icon http://www.spcug.org/reviews/vlba9804.htm Change a Hard Drive's Icon http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1847172,00.asp StevieO |

I followed the instructions but there is no ShellIconCache file or folder at all. I also tried to set the DefaultIcon key in the reg key to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll,188" Is there a different file within Shell32.dll I need to point to? Still no joy ![]()

My friend and I would like to thank everyone for the help.
The problem was: There was a CD worth of install info that was copied to the d: drive. There was an autorun.inf file that was included and set the icon to a different icon than wanted. We deleted the file and it works fine now Thanks again ![]()
