There are some good free Firewalls, and there are some good free Antivirus, unfortunately at least at this point in time, there are no good free AntiTrojans. Good luck.

Is System Safety Monitor better than nothing ?

http://maxcomputing.narod.ru/ssme.html?lang=en

Sounds like it would sand box a trojan - OK you wouldn't know you had a Trojan until it started running but if it's a choice between running something or nothing

Let me know what you think ?

Is this product similar to other personal fire walls such as Kerio, Zone Alarm or different ? Thanks.

System Safety Monitor (SSM) is an application-firewalling tool (it is not a "firewall" in traditional understanding, so there shouldn't be any conflicts with your network firewalls). SSM controls which programs are running on your computer and what they are doing. For example, SSM can prevent so called "DLL Injection". Also, SSM will notify you whenever a program you want to start was modified. In addition, SSM can constantly check your registry and alert you, when an important modification was made.

Firewalls are primarily concerned with blocking unathorised inbound connections.
SSM is only concerned with outgoing connections and as such is designed to stop Trojans when they try to establish an outbound connection.

I don't use it at present so can not comment on it's effectiveness - but it is free.

This seems very similar to the program called File Checker. It keeps checking on all your important files and notifies immediately if there are changes. But SSM sounds better. I would very much appreciate if someone who actually used this SSM software would share their experience in this regard. Thanks.

Vijay,
Look at my post on: ANTI-TROJAN FREE SOFTWARE about SSM, I've been using it about 2 weeks now. I'll have some more feedback soon.
