If this really worked out, then all our current defenses would be obsolete. Luckily we're not at this level of sophistication with artificial intelligence.
![]() I think that simply blocking its communications could end its career, since without updating it cannot evolve. Also, in a week or two the "good side" would come up with a similarly advanced hunting application - it always did. ![]() Yet, a very interesting idea. This evolving virus - evolving hunter duel could speed up AI development *tremendously*, as virtually every internet-enabled computer would participate in the evolution of these software, producing unimaginable amounts of AI related data, with computation speed way beyond laboratory networks. It might just turn out to be beneficial, after all. Who knows...

Such viruses do exist in a limited form. Polymorphic viruses.
Yet, we are still far away from the era where software could naturally evolve. It's technically impossible.

That's terrific. Hope this won't be done in the next 50 years. ![]() But we should admitt..... as the "creator" said machines protected with NOD32 are safer. ![]()

I registered and tried to post this on that site, but got registration errors ? and couldn't log in. So i'm posting it here in response, as i would if i did ! Plus it's all relevent to this thread anyway.
As a concept, it's neat thinking. The OP did start off by stating " no firewall " which these days is highly unlikely, even if people only have the inbuilt windows unidirectional one, which is now switched on by default. If, and it's a Very big IF, somethimg like this could Ever be coded, then what are the chances that it would be 100% perfect from day one, NONE, because nothing ever is or can be, or will be ! So as soon as the AV/AT/AR folks get a hold of it, the Really smart ones will figure a way round it in some way/s. Maybe as a temporary fix, but they Will be on it's case that's 4 sure, as they have too much to lose. Also the OS etc folks will be motivated to get off their backsides and go into top gear and overtime, with some workarounds/solutions, as they also will be in the firing line. On second thoughts, something like this might be just the thing that we've been waiting for, to make them start getting much more serious about bugs/holes/vulnerabilities etc. And to actually begin sorting them out ASAP, rather than wasting time making things look more fancy etc etc ( in their opinion ) What everybody Really needs are secure systems First + Foremost, not more graphics capabilities, file handling BS etc etc. Heck our PC's are more than capable of doing all that already, but they don't come Straight outa da Box as safe and secure as they could be + should be + can be ! People have to mess around turning them into as much as a Fortress as is posible, if they know how with various measures and Apps etc. So yeah, go right ahead and put the frightners on them, cos that's what it's going to take to make some of them wake up and get buzy with da fizzy ! Of course on the other hand it might be argued that, people would be much better off directing any skills they may have, into much more positive areas. Rather than writing code that can do harm to people the've never met or know anything about and havn't harmed us, why not spend more time making things better. It's thanx 2 all the people out there in the world, past and present, who in all sorts of ways have and do enable us to live the lives we can these days. So the more people that do things to make it better for all us, and the more we do also in those ways, gets us further and sooner towards that better world for all of us. Think about it, consider it and why not just try it and see how life really can work, if we actually do something about it that is ! What some might not take into consideration when planning/releasing negative code such as that proposed is, what's going to happen to, for Just one eg only, all those ill/injured people in hospitals etc etc, that are reliant on computer equiment/systems to be able to work correctly and communicate with each other, both locally and through the web ? It could quite possibly be someone you know and care about, or even you ! So rather than be the virus etc, be the antidote. And oh yeah, you will still have lotsa fun, just in different ways that's all. Peace StevieO |

Nowithstanding some of the errors in the article if anyone were able to code such a beast, the last thing they would do is release it into the wild. Instead, I'd think they would go and sell the massive theoretical breakthrough to the highest bidder. When you have a learning, replicating system as described, you're rich.

I got a better idea, why do we upload the hacker's consciousness in the machine, so it can magically look for all those exploits and come up with new ones.

Besides everything mentioned in this thread, and the posts on that forum. My question is why. Even simple viruses and worms have proven that advanced coding is not required to have a devastating effect.

Such viruses already existed.. it's called "Microsoft Windows" and "Internet Explorer" and the people who create the viruses.
