New SBS 2003 instalation - what protection do recommend?

Hi - We're about to update our computer system and will be installing 8 new pc's running XP and a new SBS 2003 file server. We have a hardware firewall.

What other protection should we be putting in place?

Currently running a SBS 4.5 box with Win 98SE clients and McAfee TVD.

Any suggestions, ideas, advice, questions gratefully received!

If your license to McAfee is still good why not just transfer it? It has a excellent track record, imo.

I've used Esets SBS version (Enterprise Edition with XMON) for the past 7 or 8 SBS installs I've done...very pleased with it. Existing clients with McA, Trend, or Symantec CE/SBE...I'm removing and replacing with NOD32 as their licensing expires...I'm that pleased with it.

And uh.....congrats on the long overdue riddance of 4.5....WOW. Enjoy 2K3! It rocks! Although much functionality will not be realized until you replace the Win9X workstations with 2K/XP.

I think it has now expired. It is an old version - so happy to make a fresh start, although would upgrade if that was a good option.

Yeah - can't wait - we're installing new XP desktop boxes at the same time - infact, they're aready here and ready to go!

Thanks for the suggestion - this is one i'm definately going to consider - is it easy to install, roll out, update and maintain? Does it do everything or just AV?

It's not as "intuitive" as say Symantec Corp Edition is for the first or second time user...but once you get familiar with it...you find it's very powerful, and problem free in installation.

On SBS packages, you'll have 4x components....
1) Remote Antivirus Server
2) Remote Antivirus Console (Can install on your server and/or workstation)
3) NT Installer for your servers and workstations...same package for both
4) XMON (Exchange Module)

XMON does not filter SPAM, but it's strong in removing phishing e-mails, and IMO above others...stronger than most in ad/spyware protection for your workstations.

You create your customized configuration(s)..and push out your installs to the workstations.

Another one to consider...Kapersky Business Optimal package....another very good product.
