Default FDISR---amazing

I know it has been said before but I personally wanted to say that this software is simply astounding. I really do like it and the ease of use. Thanks much. I really appreciate it.

The ditto's go off scale when you realize you've done something and trashed your system to the point it won't boot to safe mode. You remain calm cool collected and just reboot. So Sweet.

I have to agree with everything that has been said about FirstDefense. IMHO it was money well spent. At first when I trialed it I thought what's the point since I have system restore and Imaging software... After needing to use it acouple of times I see that my money was well spent. No need to worry about getting into windows to use system restore or possible corrupt images. Correcting a bad software install can be fixed in a couple of minutes. Perhaps someone better with words (than I) would care to write a review for FirstDefense on the Castlecops site... Then others can be exposed to this fine piece of software.

Just thought I'd have a quick look at what you were all talking about and typed firstdefence into google. Just hope I'm not listed now as I ended up on the firstdefence website for UK to do with national defence and security !

Try Google again, and this time spell defense with an "s" and also include the company name, like this:

raxco firstdefense

I got 10,000 hits.

As Acadia wrote, it's FirstDefense. [...sigh...] Count on a Limey "subject" to have an inadequate comprehension of the American language.

I'm a "Limey", and have been using FirstDefense for some time now. I agree with everything said so far, and look forward to enhancements planned for future releases.

And to help stapp, take a look at the Raxco site here:

http://www.raxco.com/products/fdisr

Also the originator's site here:

Thank you fellow limey for the links!
It all makes very interesting reading. As someone who has not been into computing very long, and a bit older than most of you I think, it sounds a bit daunting for me to install.
I have only just managed to install an external hard drive and copy all my photos, music and setup exe's over to it.

May I go sideways slightly and ask why " recovery" on my E drive is in fat32, and C: and my external drive are in nfts? (Please move this question if it's in wrong place) as I noticed there was mention of things having to be in ntfs.

Hi Stapp

First Defense must be on your c: drive anyway, so if that is NTFS you are all set. I don't remember if the archive can be on a fat32 drive or not. But you can't boot to an archive.

Installation isn't all that difficult, and there are quite a few folks here who can help you.

Don't be afraid to install it.
I just did after reading the excellent posts about it.
Still on trial though, but will purchase it afterwards.
Had to uninstall KAV, because of the Istreams.
They got removed when done.

Installed FDISR afterwards, just had to follow the
instructions on the screen during install and rebooted again.
Installed KAV without Istreams and again rebooted.
Afterwards everything was fine.

Now I still need to learn a bit more about it.

Version 6 of KAV, going through pre-release candidate stage at the mo, doesn't have the iStream problem as it uses a different technology. You'll be able to install this without worrying about having to leave iStreams off.

V6 works well with FirstDefense.

Hi, Peter, this from the FD manual: "Since archives are compressed using NTFS file compression, if you store your archives on a non-NTFS drive, they will not be compressed."

V6 works well with FirstDefense.

More importantly FDISR worked well with the few KAV 6.0 beta's that had really bad problems. Fortunately there were only a few. Even more fortunately was having FDISR.

It does say at the bottom of this page under 'System Requirements' that
Quote:
FAT16/FAT32 is not supported
Also over on the Leapfrog Software site it says that the program is

Not compatible with FAT32 or FAT16
