Default Free and safe registry protection?

I wonder if there is any free Registry protector that can be used by a biginner who has no knowledge of Registry.

Also i wish to understand registry in detail, and how to edit it safely. as I told, I am totally IGNORANT in it. Is there any site that can be helpful.
