Is there a way to either turn off, or set an auto-close within user specified time function of the text alert bubble telling the user whenever the virus definitons have been updated? I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2.

    Hello,

If I'm understanding you right, you want to disable the baloon tips. That's not part of NOD32. It can be disabled either by downloading TweakUI from Microsoft, or I beleive it can be done through a registry hack. I use TweakUI, it's a lot safer than messing around with the registry.

Hehe - no - I dont want to disable balloon bubbles totally. At the moment NOD32's bubble displays whenever the defs get updated, but it wont go away until I click on the bubble, or the cross. I would like it to show then disappear by itself after 10 seconds. Its nice to be informed.

I think this is what you want. Left click on the task bar icon to bring up the Control Center Icon. Click on NOD32 System tools. Click on NOD32 System Setup. Click the Setup Button on the right hand panel. Click on the Advanced Tab and look where it says Message Window Behaviour.

I've just tried this setting and the bubble still stays until I click. I'm guessing the bubble isn't regarded as a message window. Oh well no big problem if there's no such setting for the alert bubble. o_O

Enabling silent mode in the NOD32 setup should do the trick.

Won't that eliminate the bubble though? The OP just wants to be able to reduce the time it displays from around 5 minutes to around ten seconds.

Hmmm, my bubble disappears by itself in just a few seconds...

Have you tweaked anything in the Windows registry regarding alert bubbles?

No, but I'm running Windows ME, probably makes the difference in behavior?

To disable the bubble simply go to NOd32 System Setup-> General and check Enable silent mode as Marcos said! ;)

But he does not want his NOD32 balloon notification to totally go away. The problem is that his stays on the screen forever (unless he clicks it), instead of going away after a few seconds by itself.

I am running Windows XP SP2, but my balloon only stays for a few seconds, just like how you want it. No tweaks or anything, though.

Hmm, mine doesn't. It stays for all eternity until I click it. There's gotta be a setting somewhere but I don't see anything in TweakUI either.

OK I got mine to fade. Not sure if this did it or what but I changed the following key from 2 to 1 and it now fades after about 5 seconds...

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify\BalloonTip

I think you are onto something there, Chuck. I found the "Increase Balloon Tip Display Time" tweak over at Kelly's Korner, tweak #7.
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
    "BalloonTip"=dword:0000000a
I have no BalloonTip value on my computer, but this must have something to do with the length of time that it is displayed. No BalloonTip value probably uses some sort of default.
